I've been making the most of the opportunity to spend some time afield with my son while he is in from college over Christmas break. Yesterday we decided to see if we could get on some Woodcock. Without hacking on him in the tight cover, Cricket closed up his range and stayed within 150 yards per the garmin, checking in regularly and maintaining contact. Man I like hunting a biddable dog! It was warm yesterday to the tune of almost 70 degrees. Per Garmin, Cricket logged a little over 18 tough miles through the woods enroute to finding and pointing and retrieving to hand enough birds to scratch a two man limit. The cover we hunted was pretty wooly in places and birds were scattered. Describing the shotgunning today as sporty is an understatement!

In rare form, I actually took time out to snap a few pics of some of the easier to see points, enroute to a 2 man limit.

Points and flushes were in tight quarters and at times humbling. Sometimes the birds just won and we laughed and tipped our hats to them and moved on.

End of day glory shot.

All in all my son and I had a big time and I'm proud to say, he out shot me today.

Cricket and Tyler are tight and it shows when the two of them yuk it up.

That's awesome! Glad the three of you are getting to spend the time together, and having fun doing what you enjoy.

P.S.
He doesn't look too beat up...
