Awesome West Texas Mallard shoot this morning! Two shooters, 2 limits and done before 8am.

They did it right and we were covered up in them.

Kimber smashed it! If you've never hunted with a finished dog you have no idea what you're missing!

Nice work! So many people are hooked on duck hunting. I never have hunted them the right way. Only time I ever did was as a young man jumping tank dams. Don't much care about getting wet though. I may try one of these days.

The first time you have them drop in on top of you at first light you'll be hooked!

Good gear keeps you warm and dry.

I'm told my place gets tons of mallards in March violin bang

I bet that is why I have steered clear so far.

I've had a really crappy season so far. The worst I've had since I started duck hunting.

This was one of those hunts that came about because anytime I meet someone and they tell me they have land I casually mention I hunt waterfowl and train dogs...

I've known this guy for a while and I knew the atea he has land in is known for great waterfowl hunting. I actually expected it to maybe produce some geese or crane hunts.

About a week ago he told me the field behind his house flooded and the "ducks were making a ton of racket back there"

It took me a few days before I get up there to scout but they were still there...

We got set up before they came in and they decoyed like I've never had ducks decoy in my life....not one duck that we saw didn't decoy.

Every single group did it perfectly and to go along with it Kimber was on point. We limited and got out hoping more would come in and maybe we can get another hunt out of it.

Kimber was completely steady, completely quiet and marked every bird perfectly but one. I had to handle her to that one. We also had a very lively cripple that provided one heck of a chase in a foot of water. Wish I would have got it on video.

It was a hunt I'll remember for a while

Sounds like everything came together perfectly. That’s awesome.

clap up cheers

Had a great hunt out west a couple weekends ago. 4K mallards on one wetland area, but I won't say where cuz I'm a greedy duck Nazi. Has nothing to do with respect for other public hunters at all that will put in the time and effort to find 'em.
