What all is needed to get a youth hunting license? I know they will need a Hunters Safety Course if they will be hunting alone. Anything else? What about for identification purposes?

Nothing as far as I know. Outside of normal game laws, all I can see an officer taking issue with is their age, which could be easily defended in court with a birth certificate.

Just remember by definition, "accompanied" means hunting within normal speaking distance of a licensed and legal hunter. In other words, he/she cannot be alone in another, nearby stand.

6 or 7 bucks at Wal-Mart if you pull the trigger at anything in Texas you need a hunting license. Ran into this years ago when one of my boys was 8-9 YEARS OLD GW told me to go to Wal-Mart and pick one up for my son.

yes, you must have their Social Security number to get it issued.

Just once though, you don't need it after the first year. Name, birthdate and address is fine after that.

Cool. I provided my sons to them 4 years ago when he got his first.

If hunting waterfowl, he/she may need a stamp depending on age. I think they start requiring it around 14 or 16. Canít remember.

16 or older needs the Federal Stamp.

MOSTLY true. This restriction doesn't apply on private lands outside of designated youth days. There are some public land exceptions, too. Which I think are great.

One additional item of interest-at least according to my interpretation-is that youth can participate in the muzzleloader season without the additional restrictions of the youth gun season on the same days. Makes sense with the limited capabilities of muzzleloader I guess, although maybe not intentional.

Correct but the hunter safety restrictions still apply if they check. At least follow all the laws and be safe. Good luck! Get some meat.

Thank you, Txduckman. It's a challenge sometimes keeping up with all the different regulations and requirements-especially as they vary from county-to-county and public vs. private. Public land opportunities are generally better out-of-state, but I'm very pleased with Texas' flexibility for youth on public land. I have several who hunt or want to hunt-and there is only one of me. smile
