Anyone have first hand experience with the 178 ELD-X at 308 velocities ? Only one, I lung shot a doe at 53 yards with it and it looked like I grenaded her cavity. It blew lung pieces out the other side for 10 feet and she died on the spot. It's the bullet I now carry in both my .308s. Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Have a box of them, Lapua brass and Varget sitting on the bench, just haven't loaded any yet. I think you'll be happy. I may shoot the .308 some this weekend instead of the 6.5; it will depend on which blinds I hunt. FJG walked me out to 800yds with the 178 out of a 20" suppressed Model 70 (which is what I shot the doe with). It had no problem getting there.

On our annual deer hunt a couple of weeks ago there were mostly 6.5 Creedmoors being shot..... IIRC I counted 6 shooters running 143gr ELD-X's from 24 inch barrels and they probably shot roughly 35 deer maybe more and a couple hogs with none being lost or traveling more than 20-40 yards. Distances were from very close to 560 yards on the longest. Last year there were four 6.5 CM shooters all running same 143gr and I drove two of the guys around for two days culling deer and saw them wack deer after deer out to 450ish again with no issues whatsoever. I can say that not as many just fall dead right there as they do when I shoot them with the 80gr(it's an ELD-X ) in the 22 Creedmoor. I shot 10 the first morning with the 22 Creedmoor all DRT then switched that afternoon to the 6.5 PRC but I am using the 135gr Berger and my buddy kept saying get the Creedmoor back out as each deer ran about 10-25 steps.

I use COTS Precision Hunter in my 308 Win and my 6.5 Creedmoor. The chronographed velocities are 2,518 FPS for my 308 (20" barrel) and 2,681 FPS for my 6.5 (22" barrel).
I have had no issues killing animals ranging from a couple of pounds to well over 1,000. Both rifles have taken jackrabbit, bobcat, coyotes, Coati, axis, Coues whitetail, desert mule deer, piglets, sows, and boars. The 308 has also taken a water buffalo. With the exception of the water buffalo (two rounds), all have been one shot kills. The furthest an animal has gone after being shot was 50 yards. The ranges have been from a few yards to over 600.
So far this round has done everything that I have asked it to do: kill quickly and humanely.

This makes me feel better about my 150 gr ELD-x load from my 7 rem mag at 3165 fps. Looks like a little speed really makes the eld-x shine. Hopefully I can try it out later this year on a few axis deer. Planning on using it for longer shots on Colorado mule deer next year.

Only one to report tonight for the 6.5. 143gr 122 yards, directly broadside, right in the top of the heart/bottom of the lungs, she went straight down. Excellent cavity damage and a 1” exit. The 178gr got used on a different deer, qtring through the lungs and exiting the off shoulder at 108 yards. Again the deer went straight down.
these are small Mills county does, dressed 65-73 lbs.
