Late in the season...truck is loaded down...6 hour drive to Ranch in south Texas. My 10 year old son setting beside me in the truck talking my ear off because he’s so excited. Son say “Dad I couldn’t sleep at all last night. Going hunting is like Christmas everyday.”
Really looking forward to spending the next 4 days in the woods with my little man.
Who got you into hunting?

I started out making sure my sons were exposed to hunting. Next I will start on the grandkids.

I hunt and fish because it's my passion. Don't play golf, bowl, play bingo or what ever..

I like guns and I love the outdoors and eating meat. Just kind of makes sense.

As mentioned gets me outdoors, like to use guns and still get as excited about a nice deer as I did 60 years ago. Like the meat also.

Guess you could say I was self taught. I have always loved the outdoors and every animal in it. Was shooting things with the BB gun about 8, and the 410 at 10. Growing up in the South, there were no deer in Georgia to see. You just never saw them until re-introduced big northern ones and they took off. I grew up traipsing around with my Uncle after quail and rabbits (still love rabbit hunting). My Dad did it occasionally, but wasn't super hot on it, preferred to work too much and only fish if he had to. His passion was golf. ..Yeah, I got really good at it, but it really spoils a nice walk in the woods!!!. My Grandfather only fished, but I loved sitting at that mans feet and learning about being a man.. When we moved up to urban NY and later to NJ I still found the time and places to enjoy the outdoors.
Traveled all around the world in the Service (Navy) and found more places to enjoy. Once I got to Idaho I knew I had found Heaven on Earth. Been doing everything I love here, and sharing with the kids and grandkids. Found a partner who is as obsessed as I am and the families learned to tolerate us and just accept the fact we were nuts for the outdoors!
The rest is history.

I have solved the worlds problems sitting in the woods! ONLY to get back to the world and forget how to fix it! I have Never had a bad day in the woods as long as I have a thermos of coffee and a good shooting firearm. I enjoy watching the animals, and randomly harvest some natural meat for my family.

It's primal. No choice. First word was "deer". True story.

Dad got me started about 45 years ago as a 4-5 yo and haven't stopped since and likely never will. The tranquility and solitude keep me coming back, shooting something nice is just a bonus to me...

I can't say anyone really got me into hunting. In fact, I don't know that I am a hunter even though I love putting down a hog or coyote. I have always been a free-range type of person and the outdoors has much more appeal than the city or crowds of people.

For me its about the food. I've read too many things on factory food production, it's just disgusting. Knowing where my food comes from is important to me. And I love getting out in the woods, camping, building crappy blinds, etc. Oh, and hanging out w the guys on the lease, drinking a beer and telling BS stories on the one that got away,
Adult late onset hunter. Why did I wait so long to get started?

my dad taught me to hunt and fish over 50 years ago. we hunted squirrels and rabbits to eat. he hunted before there were any ar restrictions or bag limits all game was plentiful. he taught never take more than you need to survive on. wish he was still here but i do have the memories and they last a lifetime.

I hunt and fish because it's my passion. Don't play golf, bowl, play bingo or what ever.. This. And during the time I'm hunting and fishing I'm not thinking about all the chit life throws at me.

My Dad got me into hunting, fishing and the outdoors at a very young age. I can't remember ever being left behind when he was going. He went to be with our Lord on June 22, 2013 Thanks Dad

Something I did with my dad and still do. I guess you try to emulate your role models and I wanted to be like dad. I remember going as a pretty small kid, my dad would take me one hunt then my brother the next and vice versa. He always let us look at the deer. I remember one hunt in particular dad had a nice 8 come in, was his biggest deer and he was getting ready to shoot. I asked if I could look first, so he put the gun down picked me up and plopped me on his lap focused the binoculars for me and said hes the one over there. I looked for a second then dad blasted him. I remember the day to a T. I was sleeping up till the deer came out, dad had to wake me for the shot. I was wearing a pair of black and white sneakers some wallyworld cammo pants and a hand me down dallas cowboys sweater I got from my brother who got it from my dad. I hope I never forget that hunt, its been 26 years ago now.
I enjoy the hunt, enjoy watching the animals grow, enjoy the time with my family, and enjoy the meat and the hands on process of taking my food from the field to the table. I only hope my son and daughter share the same passion for it that I do and I can enjoy a lifetime of hunting fishing and the outdoors with them, if not... then I guess the old man is going to have to learn some new tricks.
Also came from a hunting family. The first thing I remember doing growing up at thanksgiving/Christmas was going around to all my cousins and uncles and talking about the hunting so far that year. And since that was before the era of cell phone cameras we always had the horns in the pickup.

I enjoy the rush, time spent with my family, trying to leave a legacy of outdoors and hunting to my grandsons, the serenity and appreciation of God’s creation. The things I’ve seen while hunting are simply amazing.

It's being in a stand in Gods creation, watching the sun come up and hearing nature come alive. The rush of a deer coming in and taking the shot. It's the opportunity to be alone, or with my sons, just to relax and enjoy the simple life for a day. Its spending time outdoors with my boys and teaching to enjoy and respect the outdoors instead being in front of a TV, iPad, etc. Its preparing and eating something you harvested. Its getting getting the opportunity to see my boys shoot their first gun, then first deer.

9 kids in our family 6 boys and I was the only one that liked to hunt and fish, much later on a brother started fishing. Literally as a 5 year old and older if you were looking for me, head to the woods or creek for I have always been intrigued and enamored with Mother Nature and the great outdoors Oh yea there is something special about eating something fresh that you have caught or shot
