So me and little man were suppose to go to a close family friends place this evening and try and kill some more hogs for my buddy. About 2 hours before we headed out he calls me and says there is an old 6 point that has been hanging out around the feeder lately and Jaxton has the green light to shoot him if he comes out. I instantly got excited but didn't tell little man because I didn't want him to get too excited incase the buck didn't show up and because I wanted to surprise him if he did. Well we get there around 3 and I hand corn around the feeder to make sure the deer and hogs stick around once they show up. We watched a couple young bucks and some caracara then the feeder went off at 430. About 10 minutes later I spot the buck Jaxton has the green light on and I said look a nice buck. I opened little mans window and placed the gun in front of him. He looked at me and said dad this isn't our property we aren't suppose to shoot a buck and that's when I told him that my friend said if that bucks shows up you can shoot it. He giggled a little and then put on his game face. We waited for the deer to get broadside (was slightly quartering towards us) Jaxton squeezed off a shot and I knew it was a hit but not sure where the impact was so we watched it on the camera. That is when I got worried as the shot was a little back due to buck fever. I told Jaxton we were gonna wait 30 minutes because the shot wasn't great and I wanted to give him time to die rather then jump him and have him run 1/2 a mile. Well we walk over to where he ran off and I start seeing really good blood and lots of it. We climb the fence that splits my buddies property and Jaxton says there is my buck. The deer only ran about 40 yards and his liver was destroyed causing a quick death but still glad we waited and gave it some time. All in all this plan couldn't have worked any better then it did and I'm glad I could document it on video so my son can relive the moment any time he wants. Couldn't be more proud of my little 6 yr old and his trophy.
