My family and a friends family all drew NC swan tags this. While we all hunt regularly this was the first family adventure. Great time of the year to go to the outer banks because it’s not crowded and Beachfront rentals were cheap on VA beach.

Short drive into NC for the morning hunt. Geared up and ready to go.

Despite 4 hours of rain and not a single bird none of the kids lost hope and at 11 am when the rain stopped we had 6swans in about 5 minutes.

Birds were feet down in the decoys. Knocked off #39 on the .410 list.

Until now, i had no interest in shooting a swan Until my friend convinced me to go. I’ve gotta say it was a top experience and I will be putting in again in a few years.

In terms of table fare? The swan was the best waterfowl I’ve ever had. It was the texture and taste of a prime sirloin. Better than crane or tree duck!!

What else is on your .410 list? Like to see what you have marked off and what is left on the list....

Brant and common merganser. I’ve seen both this year but didn’t get em. This kinda started as a joke with my kids and turned into a goal. I’m in no rush but hope to get the last two on an east coast trip next year.

I was supposed to be heading to SD 27-30 for grouse, chicken, pheasant but I just cancelled. My buddy said the warm weather has the birds not hitting the grain fields.
