How many coveys do you need to move an hour or 4 hours to make a trip. Or do you look at it like anytime I can get away is worth it

How far is a trip for you

My trip is now down to 35 miles in this pasture.



I no longer carry a gun. I'd go out there just for the run, but be disappointed with less than three.

our lease is a bust this year, I'll make a couple trips to get the dog some run time and only carry a shot gun for snakes and hogs. Getting out is as important to me as coveys (almost) my pup loves to run and that's the only place I have to run him. So for the dog I will go. 347 miles

Some of you guys need to try NSTRA. It was always a great outing for me. They just had a trial in Montgomery. They needed more dogs. Rustbucket went and killed a couple of birds.

4 or 5 it's a full season lease with bunk house

For 25 years I have driven 330 miles one way and go 8 to 10 times a year
This year maybe 3. Use to carry 8 to 10 dogs now 3
Not only that lease I had leases on the pitchfork, Hendricks and in spur

I have never seen a year in rolling plains as this year

In my job I had 208 hrs of vacation plus about 12 days comp time plus worked 9 9 hr days and had every other Monday off

I was very lucky

Sounds like a government job.....

2 miles,,, I"ll do it for 1 covey -------------------------- 8 hr drive to OK, 3 coveys a day,,,no thanks.
Everything is relative.

PSST careful IRS

If I can find 6 coveys a day it’s worth it to me. I have to drive 40 minutes to my after deer season lease. But I have to drive 4 1/2 hours to my all season lease. It frustrates me and the dogs if I can’t find close to a covey an hour. I usually hunt from 8 to 4. If we aren’t finding birds the dogs just keep running bigger and bigger and it turns into a race. This year we have a lot of dog power and way too few birds.

Our bird populations are down this year. Probably just enough for someone to work their dogs.

We're driving 6 hrs each way next weekend...if we can put the dogs on one covey in the morning and one in the evening, we'll call it worth the trip.

250 miles each way. I will go for 1 covey just to let the dogs work, but I will go a lot more often when there are 20 covey days.

I’ve got the same drive. Our season opens Dec 26. Will go this weekend with no high expectations

when I lived in Mo., had 3-4 hrs to hunt in the morning every other week, 2 or 3 coveys was good for me, 15- 30 minutes from the house.
