I was invited to join Darrell and Brian in a hunt up North and they were awesome and gave me the opportunity on two lone boars in a field the size of Arlington (it was a long stalk).

The 358 YETI has a couple of issues I need to work out and some that there just isn’t a fix for BUT the main purpose of the rifle is for situations just like this - lone boar or small groups were shots will be limited to 10 or less.

I had watched a YouTube video on ballistics gel testing for the exact load I’m shooting which is a Speer HotCor (180 gr) bullet at 2650 FPS. In the gel video the bullet penetrated 26” and so I had that in the back of my mind when I shot the two boars broadside in the shoulders. Unfortunately I didn’t see max penetration as both bullets were recovered intact at about equidistance ~ 14” in the offside shoulder. While I’m disappointed in the large variance between gel and pigs I will say both hogs dropped when hit and didn’t get up so it’s very minimal disappointment so long as they keep doing that.

I would ultimately like to have the ability to swap my Apex thermal across my rifles but the recorder situation also complicates this, I sure wish there were cheaper recording options that could reside permanently on each rifle...

Hog 1 I believe sensed our presence and Darrell did an excellent job in getting me into position for a high probability shot meanwhile DNS captured some excellent video!

Hog 2 didn’t have a clue we were there, the YETI needed the bolt dropped before the shot and he didn’t take notice, bang flop.

The Sionyx color night camera is worth the coin if you have folks that will operate it for you to capture footage as seen in this video. It has limitations if you’re intending to use it as a helmet mounted or spotting scope but for inside 100 yards it does any of that sufficiently with a full moon. More testing needs to be done in low moon phase environments.

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas

That turned out well! Nothing like a couple short stalks after a couple previous short stalks to really make a night!

Interesting.

Looked like you hammered both hogs pretty well.

Neat.

PS I'd only get the Yeti for the sticker to put on my truck.

PM me about your review of the .358 Yeti. I’ve asked about that round on here in the past and no one had first hand knowledge, thx.
