I absolutely love boondocking camping on public land during my hunting trips. Really adds to the adventure. How about you

I do both.

Depends a lot on several factors. If there are no nearby motels...30-40 minutes I will camp. If the weather is supposed to be bad as in cold and raining I will forgo camping and drive to a motel. It’s just no fun anymore coming in from a long cold wet day of hunting to camp and cook dinner. Not to mention all the time it takes to set up and to take down camp.

However if the weather is supposed to be nice. I really enjoy camping and cooking around the fire.

In younger days, always camped. Now in 70s it's motels if within 20-30 minutes.

Both depending on the location, weather, type of hunt, and how long I will be there.

I've forgotten which one had the motel but I once had a lease between Karns City and Kennedy. I invited a friend from Dallas. I got there early and he got there late. I went on to the lease. He never showed up. I got back to the motel and he was cleaning birds. The motel manager invited him to take his dogs behind the motel. He pointed three coveys. Same motel. They catered to quail hunters with bird dogs. They had a little cleaning table like some bait shops. We were there another time back when counties had different season dates. We were very open about it. We ate a the local restaurant. We visited with the locals as well as the sheriff. Got back home and found that the season had closed the prior week. It was back when the lighted dog trailers with hinged tops just came in. My friend headed that way thinking it was a hot dog stand. I wrote part of this up on a log that I kept in 1992. I posted parts on THF.

I’ve never been on a hunt and stayed in a motel. I’ve always camped. I own an RV now. When we tent camped we did have a nice chuck wagon we took when we could drag it in. The only good thing about tent camping on a hunt is no one ever brought their wife.

The walk from the room to the coke machine is roughing it.

Done both. Really enjoy camping right where I'm hunting. Have a buddy who's skills as a camp chef are legendary. Particularly with a dutch oven. He is invited every trip.

I'm spoiled. My wife's family land that I hunt has a house nicer than our own home. Grew up hunting with my dad and grandfather on a lease about 30 minutes from my grandparents house. Stayed there and drove back and forth. Last several years there we moved a 10x20 Morgan cabin out there and slept in it with generator power and a propane heater. Lucky I've never had to really rough it.

Never have stayed in a motel. On the Oklahoma place I always used to camp. Once morning in particular, I remember 13 degrees. That ladies and gents is a cold night when you are in a thin walled tent! A few years ago, we built a 10x20 shack. We have a propane heater, and an AC with a generator for the summer...but we still have no running water. I did have a lease in GA for a few years when I lived in Florida. Did a tent for two years there, then got a camper.

Always camp. It is amazing how comfortable a 12'x14' canvas tent can be, even in frigid temps and inclement weather. I have spent enough time in hotels that, unless forced, I never willingly stay in one.

Do most of our hunting on our own property where we have a house now. For the first several years though it was do whatever you could to sleep. Slept in vehicles at first, then tents, lawn chair/cot/ or on top of a pick nick table under the stars, then travel trailer finally the camp house we built. We use to buy a case of beer for Friday nights just to help get you to sleep when the mosquitos were chewing your face off.

I spent many nights sleeping on a 16 foot flatbed, the first one I learned a good lesson. Our flatbed came with a wood deck painted with some kind of goop that resembled creosote in look texture and stickiness every so often it would ooze some out of the wood and make a sticky little puddle. I woke up the first morning I slept on the trailer and my hair was stuck to the trailer muyloco

Jan and Feb. of 1973 I spent a month and a half camping in the wilds of Germany with my favorite uncle. 17 degrees almost the whole time, taking a bath (if you want to call it that) out of a steel pot (helmet) Motel or camper for me now.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

From an upland stand point, I use a canvas bed roll a lot, even more so since I got an upgrade to a canvas cutter as a present. I slept under the combine in Oct. during corn harvest.

Now if it gets below 18 I’m headed to hotel. I’m not sniperj tuff

Camping is the way to go for me, I spend enough time indoors during the week.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.
