I’ve already posted the buck I shot. I was rolling through my phone tonight and found this picture from December ‘16 or January 2017. Think it’s same deer?

Based on the white by eye and nose, same deer. Plus rack is pretty darn close.

Could very well be, but also may not be. Could also be of the same gene pool, brother or cousin....

Different deer. Look at his right main beam at the end. The picture of the live buck shows the main beam to be straight, while the buck you took curves upward.Probably from the same family of deer as stated above, but not the same deer.

The live pic is from the year before. He shed and grew a new rack which should be bigger. On our place I could not go by antler characteristics alone as all the freaks damaging their velvet seem to disappear the next year luckily. grin

If both photos are from the same antler year I say no. The live photo has no kicker on the left G2..... Ok I read more, if the live photo is from the year before the ldp's then yes I would say good chance its same deer.

Different bucks, imo. First deer does not have the kicker on his right G2. First deer's left beam is more straight than the deer you killed. Very similar, but different bucks. Now I too read your OP in it's entirety. Very well could be the same deer from last year with a few extras.

The live pic is the prior year.

I vote same

Forehead coloration same (reddish hair forms a V-shape), same large white areas around eyes, brow tines similar length/angle/sprout from beams, and the left brow slightly shorter than the right.

Looks like an old boy as well up

Why would that matter as he grew and beam is longer now? I didn't know the racks looked 100% the same their whole lives. Racks change, fur doesn't.

They don't look the same every year. That's why I said it very well could be the same deer as last year, with a few extras. Extras as in what he grew since last year, i.e. longer beam, G2 kicker.

Minus very discernible markings or extreme uniqueness of antlers, it is very, very difficult to pinpoint exact deer, year-year, IMO. I have seen two bucks in South Texas during the same sitting, out on the sendero that I could have sworn were identical twins. Both mainframe, very tall antlered, chocolate colored tens, each with forked G2s on both sides and both 130s-140s, 3-4yo. bucks. The similarities of rack and age of bucks were unlike I'd ever seen. Had I not seen them together, I would have mistaken either for the same buck. Think this happens a lot more than people care to acknowledge or think about, especially in areas of good fawn survival rates and thriving carrying capacities and generally good genetics and game management.

Same throat patch, white around eyes and antlers, I'd say yes.

Single throat patch and white around eyes are pretty common characteristics in just about every whitetail buck I've ever shot or seen. Not sure that's a indicator of much.

Yeah, you have to match up the patterns. That is what I was looking at. The pattern on its nose is not uniform. You have to zoom in and put the best pics side by side. That is was I did. The in and out pattern seems to match. Then pull up pics of your own deer and you can see they work pretty decent like finger prints. None are the same. Not exact of course without HD photos but that was my best guess and method to use.

My buck this year has a little white patch almost on its nose by itself which I have never seen so I am trying to find that in prior pics.

(I burning vacation days btw. partyon555 )

Most likely same deer but as pointed out it could be a different one. I am thinking same deer the brow tines look the same and those are more consistent than the reat of the rack year to year baring damage to them. Stickers and kickers come and go and to a point they get bigger with age before decline starts unless range conditions do not allow it.

I agree that it is the same deer due to similar horn characteristics and facial features.

Pay more attention to patterns. Some deer have double throat patches, etc. Not calling you out at all just MHO.

I think same deer. Live picture showing right main beam straight is because of camera angle. You are looking at edge view of beam with camera shot.
Very nice buck, congrats!
