Can someone please help me understand the bag limit for this upcoming season. Why in the world would they not put forth just a tiny bity of effort and list "under muzzleloader and youth seasons" WTF the bag limits are??

I am with you. I have been looking everywhere for the bag limit regulations for the late muzzleloader season for Navarro County. I guess the thing to do is to call the game warden in that county.

They do list it for youth only season. For youth only, it is the same as Nov 23-25...bucks and does legal. It does not however, state what it is for muzzle only, which is congruent with late youth. I too will be in the woods then, so I'd like to know as well!

I've sent a text to the GW in Cass county. I will let you know his reply.

Well, that was fast,
Yes you can take a doe during the entire muzzleloader season alone with spike or over 13" spread.

Assuming you haven’t already used those tags in that county. Correct?

Sorry, yes as long as you have not used those tags in that county before muzzleloader season.

Thanks Mr T. not sure about you guys, but I'm so frustrated with TPWD and their regulation writing. I know it's been brought up a LOT on here, but lord.... When someone has to personally call a GW just get the basics of an entire section of the hunting season, come on.

Unless something has changed... you can fill any tag not used during the fire arms/bow season for your county.

I think tp&w regulations are clear. Never had any issue understanding what muzzleloader season allowed.

I don't know how they could make it any simpler

Cass, Delta, Navarro are the same
" Bag Limit - 4 deer, no more than 2 bucks, and no more than 2 antlerless, all seasons combined. "

That means early, late, archery, youth, general, muzzleloader, ~ all seasons combined.

Any special requirements AR, doe days or restrictions etc. are in the specific county regulations.

It specifies that you can take antlerless during archery and specific dates during general season. It does not specify anything for muzzle loader.

There are 4 open seasons for whitetail deer.

The general season regulations apply to the general season, Nov. 3, 2018 - Jan. 6, 2019.

Archery, Youth only & Muzzleloader are special seasons. Special seasons fall before and after the General season.

Archery Only season Sept. 29 - Nov. 2, 2018.
A permit is not required to take antlerless deer during an Archery only season, except on MLD properties.

Youth only seasons - the early (Oct. 27 - 28, 2018) and late (Jan. 7 - 20, 2019).
Youth can kill any legal deer as specified in county regs.

General Season Nov. 3, 2018 - Jan. 6, 2019
General is the only season you'll find in the book that regulates ( sets specified dates in some counties) when you can kill anterless.
You must read the counties you hunt in regulations.

Muzzleloader season - Jan. 7 - 20, 2019.
Can kill any legal deer as specified in county regs.

County bag limits are for all seasons combined.

AR's apply in all seasons.

Clear.... Eghhhh
Way too much gray area.... Yeah

Archery Only Sept. 29 - Nov. 2, 2018

General Season Nov. 3, 2018 - Jan. 6, 2019

Antlerless Deer: November 22-25, antlerless deer by MLDP tag or hunting license tag. At all other times, antlerless by MLDP tag only.

Youth-Only
Early Youth-Only Season Oct. 27 - 28, 2018

Late Youth-Only Season Jan. 7 - 20, 2019

Muzzleloader Jan. 7 - 20, 2019

Just glancing at this some people would interpret it as " I can only harvest my 2 does from Nov 22-25" Why not just put it in black and white under each part of the season?

That would make people think they can shoot two does in each season. Using that interpretation you can't shoot any deer during muzzleloader since it does not say.

As a general rule, muzzleloader season allows you to take the state limit minus what you may have already taken during archery or general season. For example, I hunt in Nacogdoches and San Augustine county and during general season the Sunday before Thanksgiving is the last day we can shoot does. But once muzzleloader season opens if you haven't shot a doe yet then you are back to being able to bag two does plus any open buck tags you still have in the county you are hunting.

Well, I'm glad a 16 year-old has the option of hunting muzzleloader season without the restrictions of youth gun season during the same two weeks. At least that's the way I read it, lol.

First time I saw this thread. I recently answered the same question in the muzzleloader forum. The TPWD app and website are really confusing sometimes. A lot is left out split into different places regarding muzzleloader season. For anyone still not sure, the actual Outdoor Annual is better.

here is a pdf link of the outdoor annual that makes it more clear.
https://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdpubs/media/cs_bk_k0700_0284.pdf

Under County Listings page 81.
• During muzzleloader season, antlerless deer may be taken by a hunting license tag, except for counties marked with
W1 on the County Listings table (pg. 82–97), or on properties where antlerless MLDP tags are issued.

Then you just have to look on that table to see if your county has the W1 designation.

Yeah, just depends on county. What county are you in and we can look it up on downloaded version of the book. It is not available online!!!! Fix it TPWD... This is rediculous to not have it online now in ONE SINGLE PLACE!!! Get some REAL SEO folks!!
