We have a small place in eastern Collin County. Bow only county and the deer population was low to begin with. But last year there were very very few times we didn't see deer. This year there's been very few times we have seen deer. Looking at cameras theres really one group of does that is at best kind of consistent at going to feeders. Other than that a buck maybe once a week will come by. It rained a lot in the fall which is the only thing that has changed. Place was somewhat flooded for a bit but it's been very frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?

A second question is what do most people do when searching for deer leases? There's a bunch of different sites but I don't want to pay for multiple multiple subscriptions to a deer lease sight if there's one or two that are better than the rest.

It is possible that the flood waters washed the acorns away, and this has removed the deer's main food source. It is possible that the deer have just relocated to where there is a better food source. If you haven't, scout the entire property and see what kind of sign you are seeing. Do you have any food plots? or just the feeder?

When you say small, how small?

With the wet conditions we've had they have to move very little to get what they need to eat.

Small properties usually are crossing and feeding routines for deer but they don't live on them.

Are there any housing developments going up in the area?

Why don't we have time to do things right the first time, but always have time to do things over, and over, and over?

I own 300 acres in that area. When it floods out they will clear out then come back when the water recedes. That being said TPW has no idea how to manage deer populations. 2 buck and 2 doe is far too many. When the first season opened deer were just high enough in population to be hunted at all. Everyone in the world it seemed from the DFW area that had money leased all the property available and shot most of the doe population in the first 3-4 years. I had a consistent 10-12 doe here that dropped to 3 this year us to my neighbors shoots or letting people tag out on doe. But due to the fact that bucks are a bit more skiddish and the rediculous antler restrictions I have 23 different bucks on cam. Only 3 might meet the AR. One for sure and he’s a hoss, but smart enough to only move at night. Sorry for it being so long but point is deer are in lower numbers in this area and it’s due to bad management by land owners and TPW.

I’m in eastern Collin County and my numbers have dwindled every year since they opened an archery only season. 4 deer is way too much. Deer are pretty much gone off my place.

The all moved to Lavon corp land where they're safe. Get on the hunting coordinators butt about having an archery hunt or two out there no reason not to.

Exactly why is it TPW's problem when it's YOUR land??

I believe he saying the amount of deer that TPW allows to take is too high for the county. If neighbors and everyone one around is taking leagal quote is just too many deer being taken. TPW may need to look at quotas?

Yes I am saying that TPW allows too many doe to be shot in this county, not sure where people think that my land is the problem if they read my whole post. I control 300 acres, not the Texas Hunting Laws. I don't shoot doe at all because of the issue. TPW is the authority on quotas. 300 acres isn't much so I can't do anything to help or stop the others killing 2 doe a year around me, but unless TPW lowers it to 1 doe or by permit, the deer hunting will continue to suffer in this area.

They might need to look at dis-allowing crossbows for those without upper limb disability for general season there. The technology has come a long way, you cant hit a quarter every time at 100 yds with some of the new ones, my old muzzleloader wasn't that accurate.

If you are on Facebook there is a lot of groups you can join and you will find options. I’m in a group called east Texas hunting club. People post on there that they are looking for a lease for next year with the area they want to be in and there is always responses with good leads. And it doesn’t cost anything
