I was blessed to be able to hunt a few days in South Africa in 2004. We were there off-season, so the pelts weren't great, but I had a great time. Here are the three animals I took.

That's a cow wildebeest. I didn't want a head, only a rug. (You pay for the animal, and cows are less expensive than bulls.) There was this beautiful wildebeest rug in my room there. I forgot that, since I was there in the summer, it wouldn't look the same. The first thing my son did when I got it was tie a pink ribbon on its tail and name it Eeyore.

Beautiful bushbuck. When it comes to streifengnu, the better the markings the better! Yours would be a pretty rug.

I’m going in July.

Hopefully ill have an opportunity at a bushbuck of that caliber

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Thanks all. I checked the records, and the bushbuck would be #25 in Safari Club records. Of course, there are a lot of #25s . . . He made a really pretty mount, too. [Linked Image]

This all happened because my boss and I went over there for work. We spent a week instructing some folks from the South African electric utility in some software, then took a few days to hunt. The experience of a lifetime for me.

Good gracious that is an outstanding Bushbuck. Congratulations sir, would love to hear the story behind that hunt. The Impala and Wildebeest are also just as nice, a very well done.

I actually missed seeing a good bushbuck earlier in the day. My guide kept saying "Right next time the tree," but we were looking into a forest. Later, we were sitting in the truck after lunch, when the landowner drove up. "You're not going to find the blankety-blank bushbuck sitting in the blankety-blank shade." He took us to where he knew this one hung out, and I got a broadside shot at about 100 yards. It was better than the one I didn't see, according to my guide.

We had a great trip.

"Right next to the tree!" haha reminded me of a story.

Had a client that struggled to pick up the animals and had a few trophies go trotting off. Next morning I said "Do you see that tree with the curly branches?" "Yes" "Ok, shoot the tree." ......He left with a 53" Kudu bull clap

That's great! My guide and I passed on a kudu because it was almost dark, and we didn't think we could retrieve it. We cam around the corner and realized it would have slid downhill to the gate. No complaints. I don't have room in my house for a kudu anyway.
