You book a migratory hunt, ducks, geese or crane. Most outfitters prefer group thats together and not mix strangers. But on outside chance they do how is the shot situation handled? Example- 5 hunters in blind and say crane limit is 3 each! Do you shoot your limit and other responsible for theirs or do they just blast away till agregate limit is met? My son is booking a father son hunt for cranes! Love the idea and have gone solo crane hunting myself so this will be great gift! I'm just not high on idea of outfitter putting us with folks I don't know to begin with, but I can learn and meet new folks. I would give it a try but I'm not paying to shoot your birds and expect the same from others. The outfitter maybe working with us and not putting us with others, I don't know yet (son setting this up) but still looking forward to father son hunt!

Legally "Party Limits" can get you a ticket when hunting or fishing. I've had a warden tell me to keep mine and other hunter's birds separate for limit reasons. Of course this law isn't strictly followed or enforced. Personally I want to shoot my own birds and catch my own fish when in a group, but just my personal preference. I do like hunting in large groups for geese, crane, and dove and meeting new hunters is usually fun, but I keep my birds in my own pile.

W/ cranes it’s pretty obvious how killed it vast majority of the time.

With that said if you are stressed book a private hunt.

On the flip side if you only get three flights, and your shooting is off that day. It may guarantee you go home with some meat and meal to help reminisce about a grand hunt spent with your son.

My 2 cents

Most bird hunters I have meet are good about this. A lot of times espically on something like goose you put the kids on the outside so they get first crack. I have never seen a hunter not want a kid to have fun on a bird hunt

I've never seen a large mixed party group count individual limits. I was hunting out of lawton with an outfitter when I was young, wind shifted and put the geese on our end of the line. Guy on the other end said he shot once. banana2

Doesn't bother me to get a group limit as a group with waterfowl or fishing.

A limit is a limit is true, but I'm not here to pay for someone else to shoot more and take their limit. If it's group hunt and someone cant shoot worth a darn and they ask then all is good. I could have just handed the money over and sit in warm truck! Sorta like juniors first deer is wall hanger and he could barely hit target at 50 yards but lo and behold perfect shoulder shot at 150 all the sudden...I don't think so! If I can't hit or shots aren't there then thats hunting. But no please no assistance for me shooting. I'm betting outfitters sets it up where we aren't thrown into that situation.

IF I pay, I expect to get the shots to fill my limit, my .02 when the other hunters limit, QUIT SHOOTING.....I would have this agreement with the outfitter....

Well...it's illegal to kill more than your limit of birds..or for someone else to kill more than their own limit..so it really shouldn't even be a question. I know it happens, but most guides try to stay within the laws.
