I am guessing more like 80 yards. They see pretty good. A sandhill crane passing at 30 yards would be unusual for pass shooting.

I’ve hit them with the range finder multiple times. They are decieving because of their size. When I say passing, for me that’s when they are coming off roost and back to roost, so landing and taking off.

We actually pass shot geese in Wyoming a few years ago and used a range finder.

Kind of hard to do by yourself though. We had 8 of us in a group and 2 people ranging them as they flew over. We kept our shots under 60 and killed more than we missed. Shot an 8 man limit and only remember 1 cripple and 1 that sailed. We were able to retrieve both.

I would have been too embarrassed to post that video above. That is just ridiculous.

The 3" Winchester Varmint X lead BB load knocks them dead with a .665 turkey choke. It will sever a leg at 50 yards if you shoot too low. Much better results for me than what I got with the 3 1/2 Hevi-Metal steel BB. They're gonna get it come Saturday. haha
