I had been looking forward to this past weekend as it was finally a chance for me to sit as long as I wanted to on Saturday. I don't always get the chance to do that with 2 young kids at home. However, we got a little over 2 inches of rain Friday and into Saturday early morning. Luckily I already had my Kawasaki Mule loaded and ready to go. I live about 30 minutes from my wife's family property where I hunt. Get up earlier than normal to account for wet roads and unloading the UTV. Get there and unloaded and its WET, I'm talking 4 wheel drive Mule sliding all over Muddy! What makes it worse is that we took the time to plant oats a few weeks back and the "road" to the blind was part of what got planted and plowed. I'm able to corn the road and get settled. I have some early does out and a couple young bucks moving.

From my blind i can see down a fairly new pipeline for a good ways into the neighboring property. About 5-600 yards off of open sight. At about 8am I see a nice 8 coming form that fence line area, down into the small creek up to the corn... as i put the glass on him I notice a MUCH nicer 8 on the lane that separates the property. He quickly moves to where I lose sight of him. Then about 3 minutes later he pops out on the road eating corn. I had not seen him on camera at all this year. As he's eating he is facing me straight on. I don't like that shot. We're on a MLD program and we are very selective on the bucks we take off the place. But I knew it was his time to go... He disappears for a minute while chasing a doe but quickly reemerges and gives me a shot. It was an easy shot at about 150 yards. Felt good about the shot as he runs off with a little hunched look to him. I waited a whole 45 minutes (ok, maybe 8-10) before I get down and take a look. He was in the brush about 20 yards from where he had been standing. No need to sit all day!

We roughly scored him at about 118. His G-2's were a little over 11 inches. Not my best buck - but by far my best 8!

We didn't weigh him but I will tell you that he was a chore to load in the mud by myself. Luckily I a lock down pulley with me to help me out.

Thanks - could be. My wife's cousin did it for me rather quickly. Who knows... I was happy with it regardless of score.

lol... actually he was a pretty good sized body. Took the quarters alone, they were about 55lbs at the processor.

Congrats on a fine 8pt. Good buck regardless of score, if mass measurements are missing that would bring him up to where I am thinking he is on score.

Beautiful buck! I'm a sucker for big 8 points. I'm with the others, he looks well over 118.
