I have a good friend who I am convenienced is afraid of being in the woods at night. He has never admitted it, and I have never asked him directly, but his actions seem to indicate it. I suspect there are others like him, which is no big deal. Heck, I don’t like to get any higher in the air than the height of a stalk of corn.

I'm not scared of the dark but I have been scared in the dark.
I walk in the dark without problem.

There is nothing different except it's harder to see, so I see no reason to be scared.

The dark doesn’t bother me at all, but there are things out there, that I can’t see, that do bother me. I have lots of bright flashlights and lots of batteries.

It doesn’t bother me. My 10 year old son is scared to go outside in the dark without a flashlight. My 7 year old has no problem with the dark. I used to hunt with a Vietnam vet back in the early 80’s that had to leave a lantern on when he slept because he got disoriented when he woke up at night. I still don’t think he was afraid of the dark he just woke up not knowing where he was at. It’s silly for a grown man to be afraid of darkness.

I don't mind the dark and if I could somehow move my bed into my closet where there are no windows, I'd do it in a second. However, my lease is really rocky and there is no way I'm going to walk around in the pitch black and blow out an ankle or knee. I've done enough of that during various sports over my life and I would rather use a light than have another meniscus or ACL surgery.
Thanks, Rich

Prickly pear is much more abundant in the dark. Gawd I hate getting stuck on pear! Ain't that the truth! I also hate stepping in a badger hole in the dark. Those critters will dig huge holes overnight in the darndest places, like right in the middle of a road or a trail.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I sometimes enjoy the feeling of solitude that can sometimes come with darkness. As a kid growing up on a ranch up in the Redwoods, I liked to sit in the woods and listen to the sounds of the night.
But that doesn't include stumbling around, tripping and running into things that hurt!

Yes, I will admit it, I'm afraid of the dark, don't have a reason to be, but I am. However, I don't let that stop me from walking to my stand in the dark or walking back in the dark. I do use a flashlight, but that's to keep me from stumbling over a rock, etc. On a full moon, most of the time I don't use anything. However, if you jump out of a bush and yell to scare me, I will empty my gun on you, load it and empty it again, then say, "Who's there." Just a FYI.

When I had the compression of the spinal cord, I also was affected by disequilibrium, which is exacerbated when in the dark. If I am in the dark, I lose what little balance that I have left. It is like being stoned and drunk at the same time, I can't tell which is up or down, and I have no sense of direction. I know if I am standing, but with almost no feeling in my legs, I feel like I am floating.

Haven't been scared of the dark in decades. Different story as a kid...

Alone in the dark is no fun. You lose on sense and then you rely on others. Mainly scared of little girl ghosts.
No fear of meth heads, or convicts. Only little girl ghosts.
Plus I hunt alone. Which ain’t much fun.

Not scared a bit as long as I have a firearm. I would imagine most people would be less afraid walking through pasture to get to the stand than thick woods. Not sure since I’ve never been able to walk through pasture to get there.

In my younger years I used to think I didnt need a light. As stated above, you trip fall into pear ya get smart real quick. I always carry some kind of light.
I like to have a light, penlight in my pocket and larger one in my back pocket of pack. I've seen it so dark once you get in the brush/thick woods looking for a deer/hog etc you can't see up from down it aint no fun when you can't see where you are. Thats when you realize might not be scared of the dark, but you are sure enough scared cause you can't see!!!
Thanks, Billy

My 5 year old thinks nothing of running around the woods at night without a flashlight, but refuses to sleep with the lights off. Don't know how much of that is afraid of the dark and how much is him just being difficult as he's one of those kids that has to push boundaries

Aint skeert of the dark, but I'm certainly no fan of rolling up an ankle a mile down a logging road. I always carry a light these days. As a kid, different story. We rode our bikes thru the woods with no lights for 3 months every summer
