Hello hunters! I’ve just been informed by a buddy who has 250 acres in Leon County that I can hunt there. This property has two ponds, a few cattle and 3 chicken houses... it’s never been hunted but he does see hogs and deer on the property. A creek runs through the property and plenty of mature oaks for cover. Would it be too late in the season to put a feeder out and would my time be better spent sitting in a blind waiting for something to come by?! Any advice from you pros would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn’t waste my time with a feeder. Plenty of natural food still out there.
Do some scouting.

It’s all luck anyway

X2, look around a bit for consistent trails, rubs, scrapes... then post up near there. At most I would put out some corn or attractant to get them to stop a bit in a shooting lane, but then there is always the possibility the cows find it and just post up there.
Good luck!

That area produces some solid deer year in and year out. Throw a feeder up and let the fun begin

Hand corning or using a tailgate feeder may be something to think about as well.

wouldn't hurt a thing to put out a feeder ... as a minimum, hand corn some areas and game will be on it within a few days.

Picked up a feeder and 3 trail cameras, ready for this weekend!! If anything I’ll be setting it up for the next couple of weekends to hunt.

I lived in that area most of my life. Depending on where it is exactly, you could be in a really good spot. PM if you want to give me specific area and talk about it.
Any place in Leon Co will produce hogs and deer, but when it comes to bucks it varies. Either way, its worth pursuing.

Too late for a feeder in that area. Scout trails and hunt them

I would put (2) feeders out and throw A LOT of corn like 2x the amount per toss (as normal). I would also hand toss (scatter, not pour) several pounds around the feeder when you set it up. AND get some pop up blinds.

1 feeder for a South wind and 1 feeder for a North wind----let it throw for a week before you actually hunt either one. Deer will find it within a few days.

I would also get a tail gate road feeder for your truck or UTV.
If it is only you on 250 acres and it has a fair amount of cover with a road system, I would corn the roads (not public roads) and hunt the roads between bedding and feeding areas.

It is LATE in the season, but you've still got 3 a few more weekends and the Christmas/New Years break.

Good Luck and Be Safe!!

If you put out a feeder, aren't the cattle going to eat it all without a pen?

The property is off of 79 and 39 near Jewett in Leon County. I’m headed there in the morning with a feeder and trail cameras to set up. Will do some scouting and see if I can find any signs. Cattle have been sectioned off to one side so I don’t need to worry about them eating the deer corn.

I know it’s late but it’s still worth the time and effort. If anything I can still go after hogs and maybe turkey if there are any in the area come spring!

It’s been a week since I’ve set up two feeders on the property, planted a few cameras. I’m going back Friday to do an all day sit in and inspect the cameras. I did see lots of hog signs, seen some deer droppings but nothing major. How’s Leon county this season for anyone hunting there? Right now TPWD only allows the harvest of bucks so that’s going to lower my chances even more! Hoping I get lucky with enough time spent in the field, if anything it’s still enjoyable to be outdoors!

I hunt about 10 miles away from you on family land. My uncle and a cousin have set feeders out. Both of them usually have corn under them at all times. There is so many oak trees producing acorns, the deer don't really care about the corn. I have seen 2 deer at the feeders, one time, and that is it. I would concentrate on the water sources. Find where they are getting into the tanks and set up game cams there.

We have two ponds on the property and a creek that runs right through connected to a lake. With all the rains the creek has been flowing so they are not coming to the ponds.

Just got back from the property, reviewed the game cam footage and boy were there a lot of deer!! I counted some 50 plus that came to two of my feeders in a 6 day period. Unfortunately there were no buck sightings, the does were all massive like they could be pregnant. During this time of year Leon county only allows you to hunt bucks... I saw two cams by around 10:30AM as I was sitting in my blind.
