Several years ago I was bowhunting on Camp Bullis an army training base at that time, before they changed over to calling themselves "joint base" and I was in my assigned area where there wasn't supposed to be any training going on at that time.
Anyway I had parked my Grand Cherokee out near a cleared field and walked into the brush where I had my feeder and blind set up.
I heard a lot of trucks and people talking in the direction of my Jeep, and then two blackhawk choppers began to fly in very low over my stand, and begin to land also in the direction of my Jeep.
I figured this was my cue to leave my stand and head over there to where the Jeep was parked and all the commotion was taking place.
As I came out of the brush in full camo carrying my bow there were about four trucks and several dozen troops and more off loading from the choppers just yards away kicking up dust.
As I neared my Jeep to get out of Dodge the commander of the bunch smiled and asked me if I did any good? He sheepishly apologized and said he bowhunts out there as well in his off time.
I was a little awed by the whole ordeal and just forgot to ask his name.
Afterward I thought it was pretty cool even if they ruined my hunt, and the hunting headquarters sent me out when there was a training conflict.

On a lease near the Mcmullen - Atascosa county line, I was walking a sendero from camp to go hunt one day, and something catches my eye and kind of startles me from overhead. It was an F16 (I think) moving from behind me on my right to out front and to the left of me. My first thought was - Man that dude is LOW!!! Second thought - OMG he has that thing moving!!!! Third - Wait...there's no sou........and that's when the thunder hit me and that moment is probably the closest I've ever been to my heart literally jumping out of my chest.

For some background, I was an AF brat, so had been around AF jets growing up and been to more Air Shows and Thunderbird performances than I can count. Still live in the San Antonio area, and for reference he was flying no where near as high as the Tower of America's, which I think is a little over 600ft give or take a few. I can tell you I have never seen anything else flying that fast at that height. It scared the you know what out of me when he passed over, but to this day it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my entire life.

That's awesome.....I grew up in Bell county so we would see helicopters from Ft. Hood all the time.....did have one come by low and fast (tree top level or lower) flying nap of the earth. Looked like I could reach up and touch it.

I was on a lease just SW of Grahm about 20-22 yrs ago. Our lease had the southern boundary of the Brazos River that ran through it. There was a 30-40 ft ridge that ran above the field that fed downninto the bottoms. I was sitting on this ridge facing North about 9a.m. Out of no where two Fighter jets (no idea what type, F-16s maybe) came haulin tail on the deck. Came right over top of me and once they hit the river, about 800yds north of my position they pulled up and went straight up. The sound was deafening. It took me a minute to regain my senses and wipe out the mess I made in my drawers. Never will forget it.

I was on Choke Canyon many years ago when they were still flying F-4 Phantoms and anyone familiar with those aircraft know they are loud, but once the afterburners are lit they are EXTREMELY LOUD.
I was fishing toward the river area and facing toward the east luckily because I spotted him coming toward me just above the trees. I got down on the floor of the boat and covered my ears because I knew what was coming.
It still raised the hairs on my neck even at that. I'd witnessed them in Vietnam on bombing runs and for a moment had a flashback.
They stopped that exercise (buzzing fishermen) because some of those guys got called on the deck about it when someone (not me) turned them in.

They definitely played by different rules in the 80s. Flying cliff level and breaking the sound barrier was a daily occurance at Possom Kingdom Lake back then. We loved it as kids.

We hunt in southwest Comanche County, and there is an electronic bombing station in the county, and that military aircraft use that are from two bases - Carswell and Dyess. Weekends are very noisy with high and low level flights, dog fights, and periodic bombing runs by B 1's from Dyess. Every now and then, they like to surprise us with an occasional sonic boom!!! Last spring, I arrived at our front gate, and just as I put my hands on the combo lock.....we had a rather low, and loud, sonic boom......!!! I thought the lock had blown up in my hands! lol35

I was feeding cows around Throckmorton years ago when two F-4s came right over me. They may have been at 200 feet. My first thought was "that's freaking cool" and my second thought was "I'm glad I'm on their side." We used to watch the C-130's that DC mentioned all the time as well as the training helicopters out of Ft. Wolters and T-37s along with T-38s out of Sheppard. If you were a fan of military aviation then Throckmorton was a good place to be.

Altus, or SAFB, if you're reading this and that was you, hope you enjoyed your hunt that morning as much as I did. We both saw something cool.

Where you were it was most likely T38s from Sheppard AFB. Either ours or the German squadron based there.

Had a lease between Cherokee and Pontotoc back in about 1990, I had just came out of a brushy area and had walked about 30 yards into an open field when all of a sudden two jets came over breaking the sound barrier. I swear they were 20 feet above the trees. I dove for the ground, by the time I looked up at them, they were pretty much gone. I almost chit myself. Saw some cool dogfights at night from camp a few times.

I had a close encounter in the Lowe’s parking lot in Fort Worth near the JRB. He was bouncing an F16 and flew right over me while turning around to bounce again. He was maybe 200’ above me in a tight turn banked way over with cockpit clearly visable. We nodded at each other and he was gone. It was cool.

That is awesome!

When I was stationed at Ft. Polk in the early 90s, the A10s from the base in Alexandria used to train in the same area we did. They would roll and drop flares close to our tracks simulating a bomb drop on a tank. They are super quiet until they fly past you.

I shoot them the middle finger salute. They flew low over a friends ranch and spooked one their horse which was severely injured. They need to think about what they are doing to the animals below them.

I was hitting my approach to the green on #14 at Hawks Creek and an F-18 goosed his engines in my back swing and I'm pretty sure the pilot was laughing at me after I duffed my shot.
