Shot one to mount a few years ago. Don't know that I will shoot another. Was a fun hunt, but what do you do with the darn things besides have them mounted?

Won a Javalina hunt south of Sanderson, Texas and would like to know what is the best caliber of rifle does one suggest for harvesting them. My wife is shooting her 6.5 that she takes deer with. My Deer rifle is a WSM 270 and I think is a little much for Javalina. I also have a 223 Ranch rifle I shoot hogs around our farm with. I have other rifles but want to take what is recommended by those that have shot them before. Any help is appreciated.

I have a 17 HMR but I don't want the Javalinas to run off in other words won't the shot placement have to be more accurate with the 17 HMR? They are gonna gut, quarter, skin and pack them for us. I've eaten Javalina burritos at Dilly once and I am going to grind the meat for that. The guide said he will put us on a couple of large ones?

Pretty easy to put down and unlike hogs are thinned skinned. They are blind as bats so shots under 30 yards are common, imo.

Javelina look bigger than they are. They are only about 18" thick. You could use a .22 if legal. Great bow targets. Depending where you go hunt they can be very spookie, 20 yard shots most of the time.
P.S. If you shoot one, don't handle it to much till it cools down. This will give the fleas time to leave. They also have a big sent gland on their back.
