Last week, I was right in the middle of a very wide, mostly dry sandy river bed. Late morning in bright sunlight kneeling over a buck that I was quartering getting ready to pack out. I see them a lot, AF jets flying the river very low. This one, I heard it and he was right over me, with the plane at an attitude so that the pilot could see me. When I say low, I could see his oxygen mask, that low. I gave him a thumbs up, he went over me and took that sucker up and back around for another look. Altus, or SAFB, if you're reading this and that was you, hope you enjoyed your hunt that morning as much as I did. We both saw something cool.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

The C130's out of Dyess used to fly training missions over our place, they would also fly so low that we could almost throw rocks at them. We would wave and they would wave back.

We had some helo’s over our lease on night back in Oct in southern San Saba county that we thought were going to land in our camp.... They were totally blacked out, didn’t have a single light on, I think we could’ve seen the instrument panel lights had they been on thru the windshield they were so low.
No doubt about the AR crap, just damn shame hunters don't have self control and knowledge

When I was young and dumb, (as opposed to old and dumb now) I had moved to Phoenix, AZ and I would drive my "new" car that I had bought off my Dad ( a 1977 Olds Delta 88 with approx 250,000 miles) out Past Luke Air Force base to visit. The new F16 pilots were training to take off and land, they would come in real low right over the road on approach to land, touchdown, then punch it and head out over to California to come around and do it again. Many times they would be low and slow right over that light green boat I was driving and tip their wings, I would stick my arm out the window and wave to them as I went off the road into the cotton fields, then as I was overcorrecting to get back on the pavement making a bunch of dust, they would go about their business.

Several years ago, I was on one of the sky islands Southern Nevada. An A-10 flew over at a low elevation and I could almost tell the exact moment that he spotted me. He rolled over about 90 degrees so he could look down and did a few circles around me. It was pretty cool but if I had been in a war zone, it would have been terrifying.

We have a 'triangulation marker' on our place, put there by U.S. geologic survey. It's a brass emblem set in pipe, buried in concrete. It's way back in the woods. I found it by accident. Pilots use it constantly. Kinda' wish they would keep the noise level down, at least during deer season.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

Many moons ago we had two F-4s fly over on the deck, then pitch up, one pursuing the other. Awesome.

The U2s from the repair depot would fly over the interstate during rush hour "calibrating" their cameras. Or they would swoop around the air base looking in windows of the buildings. Never leave controlled material near an open window on this air base. A different kind of hunting.
If you worked nights you could hear the SR-71 land and roll into the repair hanger. A few nights later the sky would light up with their afterburner when they took off again.

There used to be a practice range in Mcmullen county used by the Navy and the USAF. Not sure if it's still there now or not, but back in the 80's and early 90's it was quite common to hear and see Fighter jets in that general area of S TX., hear sonic booms, etc.
On a lease near the Mcmullen - Atascosa county line, I was walking a sendero from camp to go hunt one day, and something catches my eye and kind of startles me from overhead. It was an F16 (I think) moving from behind me on my right to out front and to the left of me. My first thought was - Man that dude is LOW!!! Second thought - OMG he has that thing moving!!!! Third - Wait...there's no sou........and that's when the thunder hit me and that moment is probably the closest I've ever been to my heart literally jumping out of my chest.
For some background, I was an AF brat, so had been around AF jets growing up and been to more Air Shows and Thunderbird performances than I can count. Still live in the San Antonio area, and for reference he was flying no where near as high as the Tower of America's, which I think is a little over 600ft give or take a few. I can tell you I have never seen anything else flying that fast at that height. It scared the you know what out of me when he passed over, but to this day it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my entire life.
