My 10yr old son and I went out on a meat run Thanksgiving day. Having to be back by 10 am according to the boss lady. We left early watching the moon set toward the west. Pulling up on our place to hunt at first sign of light. We made our way to the back of the property to set up on a makeshift ground blind in a wooded area that in a wet weather creek area that divides a corn field. My son was spinning like a top as i sat there for an hr and a half. So I decided we should move around hoping to run into some does that I've seen cruise the area, No luck. At around 9am we both had looks of disgust of not seeing anything and knew it was time to head back. As we were walking out of the trees to the field headed back i was taking notes of tracks and rubs and my son says "hey there are some does" I look up and there they are at about 50yds. I make sure he has his hearing protection on and he gives me the thumbs up that he is ready I put the cross hairs on the doe, take off the safety and start to put my finger on the trigger and he says, hey ther is a buck. I look up and don't see anything, and he points off to the side I look around a limb and there he is. The does move off and the buck is tailing them, I give out a "meah" and put solid shot on him where he goes maybe 20yds to take his last steps. My son was pumped as was i, he is now wanting to harvest a deer but he needs a few more outtings for experience and appreciation. I figured you guys would appreciate the short story and the pic. Nice buck. You owe your son a guide fee. Where was he shot? Looks like a corn field

Great buck and recap of the hunt. Glad your son was paying attention to the surroundings and let you know he was there. I think your son is well on his way to being a hunter or guide for Dad at least.

Thanks for sharing

We had given up and was walking out of the trees back to the truck and the deer were out in the middle of the field. My son did a good job spotting the deer. There was nothing but open fields from where we walked out. The shot passed through both shoulders and took out the valves going in and out of the heart

Looks like an Illinois or Iowa buck. That is a HOSS. Great story too. Y'all did outstanding. I'm sure boss lady was excited too.
