have a bad genetic problem at the place i hunt but the antler restrictions usually stop us from culling them. they all have just a spike or fork on right side and normal rack on the other. quite a few deer this way. have one that has broken off his fork part Does he qualify for the ar now?

Does the buck have at least one unbranched antler?
If yes, shoot him if you want.
Does the buck have an inside spread of 13" or more?
If yes, shoot him if you want.

The buck in the picture appears to have an unbranched antler ( one point ) on one side and 4 points on the other.

Kill that spike on one side.

How many acres do you have?

Looks like antler damage and not genetic. Kill him if you like him.

Shot one like that about five years ago. Would have been AR legal for sure if both sides were true. Was a five pt on one side and a dagger 6” spike on other. Game warden checked and said needed to be removed From gene pool.

here he is before the fork part was broken off. definitely genetic, we have a few of them like that here. fork on one side normal 4-5 points on the other. may take a couple years just shooting culls and letting normal rack deer live even if they are monsters just to get good genetics going again. this guy breaking off that fork has sealed his fate i think. only about 200 acres but i dont thing much hunting goes on surrounding this place. its pretty close to town.

Wow, looks like he broke off all the way to the pedicure on that forked part. DDefinitely agree he needs to go. Won’t ever grow anything big out of that side although he may get some cool stuff to grow from it over time, he will likely never be AR legal unles he breaks off again.

Not necessarily genetics but suspect a damaged pedicle that will not grow another normal antler

Looks like antler damage as well. We had one like that in 2016 and gave him the pass, he grew to a 140" eight point this year. I would give your deer another year or two but its up to you.

Definitely not genetics. That is either pedicle damage from fighting during the rut and breaking the antler off in the skull or velvet antler damage during the first couple of weeks of antler growth this year. IMO what I see is that you have a very close buck to doe ratio and bucks are fighting a lot due to it.
