Anyone ever tried calling the birds in the fall? I've had success doing it several times now. Most recent was last weekend when a group of almost 20 hens and jakes came to one of my feeders. I pulled up the app on my phone and started yelping and the whole group turned away from the corn and came across a draw right to me! If I hadn't stopped calling I think they would have come into the blind with me. Opening weekend, I had two toms start strutting when I did the same thing, and this is just with the app and the speaker on my phone. I'm not even using a Bluetooth speaker. I'm hoping to use the strategy to show some turkeys a fine thanksgiving dinner this weekend

Those jakes and jennys will come a runnin to just about anything, and draw the adult birds with them. Rancher's wife sent me a video the other day of toms strutting in their front yard.

Anything from a squeaky screen door to a feeder going off will call a turkey.

In the past, I've been able to call in turkeys (of both sexes) during the fall with light yelps, clucks, and purrs (emphasis on light). They come in out of curiosity and to be social rather than to breed. I've done so by approaching groups of turkeys quietly from a distance and settling down well-concealed in the brush.
I've only turkey hunted in the fall a few times, so I'm no expert at it, but to me this approach has always seemed much more sensible than the one everyone writes about in hunting magazines, where you supposedly charge in and make a lot of ruckus to break up a flock, and then call them back in. The point is, if you can get close enough to break up the flock, you're probably already close enough to shoot or at least to bring them close enough with some light calling.

I once called up a huge gobbler into camp by playing Robert Earl Keen's '5lb bass', live version. Brian Duckworths fiddle solo brought him on a string. Darndest thing ever.

Had some jakes that were acting quite foolish this fall. Old tom's weren't impressed
