Thanksgiving weekend was pretty slow, full moon and warm weather. Headed out this weekend for the dark new moon and cooler mornings, hopefully see some more movement.

Snow!!! About 2-3 inches on the ground at our place. Makes it a cool hunt this evening, not too often do we get to see snow on the ground out of the deer blind.
I had a nice 8pt come through about 4:10pm, I could tell it was a little younger than the 8pt I got the other week, not quite as big of body but still looked plenty healthy, rack was at ear tips maybe just a bit outside. Kinda weird thing though, he was really limping on his front left leg. I looked at him with my binoculars and couldn’t see any glaring injuries so maybe got hurt fighting, maybe got a love tap from a car? Not real sure, maybe shot in the leg. He ate out of the protein gravity feeder mostly, then ate some of the sweet beets stuff I put down and finished with a little bit of corn. Then came out of the pen and laid under a tree about 20 feet outside the pen. I could tell he was licking his front left leg making me think there was some exterior injury going on there. Laid around a bit then ended up limping off after a short break. Stayed around about an hour so it was pretty cool.
Not long before I couldn’t see anymore a mature doe came out and she was super skiddish. Circled way around the pen twice and looking around before she jumped in and ate a bit until I think I scared her off getting my bag together to leave and head back to the truck, or she just wanted a quick bite, I looked up and she was gone.
Snow will probably still be there in the morning as it’s going to be a little under 30 tonight. Look forward to the morning hunt with no moon light this weekend.
Now watching BBQ pitmasters in my camper and finishing up a beer, ready to hit the hay.

Had a great hunt this morning, saw 9 deer total. Limpy came back just after 7am and brought a couple smaller buddies being a 6pt and 4pt along with a doe. They ate for awhile then 6pt walked off behind me towards my FNL’s blind area. About 8am another good 8pt showed up from behind me towards direction of my FNL’s blind area. He’s bigger than Limpy is but not but a lot, a little bigger body and a little bigger horns. He came right in and started eating. A few minutes later a small young spike came out from behind me also. More time goes by of some great deer watching and all end up leaving except Limpy, and then 3 more does show up a little after 8:15. Then Limpy becomes a a$$hole and won’t let any of the does eat! LOL. As soon as they jump in he limps his a$$ over there and pushes them out. Two of the three does say screw it and leave after about 7 minutes, one sticks around in the trees. Limpy gets out about 8:30 and hobbles off and the one doe comes in and eats for 5 minutes then goes on about her day.
Also had about two dozen ducks come in to the pond beside me, about half pintails and other half mallards and gadwalls.
All in all, a great morning in my book! Fingers and toes got a little cold towards the end.

Heading to our place in Woodson on Tuesday. Looking forward to putting one or two on the ground while I'm out. Also good to hear about the waterfowl. Have any sandhill cranes moved in? They like our wheat fields from time to time.

Good to know! I'll do my best to take care of a few of them.

Literally hundreds of them are there on our lease and surrounding area. As soon as my FNL gets his deer I’m commencing rapid fire on them cranes!
