I’ve got coons for dayssss. Do you guys think coons ever detour deer from the pen? I hardly get any night pics of the deer 🦌 and I hAve got up to ten coons at a time 😩

I have seen a coon run a doe and a small six point out of a feeder pen at different times.

I have seen deer and coons eating corn together many times. You may have some aggressive coons. I personally don't mind giving a coon a .270 kiss....there are always plenty more to take their place.

Time to put out some traps the problem does not fix itself

I trapped 7 coons just this past week. Coons caught in a trap will deter the deer until removed, mainly because they are thrashing around making noise trying to get out. But rarely do you see a free roaming coon scare off deer. Maybe a young doe, young buck or fawn, but I have never seen a mature buck intimidated by them. If anything the mature buck is running them off.

I've watched young deer chase coons off many times, but most of the time they tolerate each other, I have even had deer at the feeder with a coon or 2 caught in the duke traps. A couple of dukes dog proof traps and a couple of weekends and you will be on the move to thin them out.

Dog proof traps = problem solved

The duke trap is the way to go. Bait them with small marshmallows and set them on an angle so they can see inside. I used them in my protein feeder pen. 4 traps, one in each corner. went 3 for 4 many times. Could not quite pull off the 4 -4! Didn't stop them totally but slowed em down quite a bit.

By the way. I am convinced that Throckmorton coons carry leatherman tools.

Ive seen deer/coons eat side by side, ive seen deer run coons off and coons run deer off. If they are only there at night I wouldn't consider it too horrible a thing, its keeping your deer from eating all night.

Dog proof traps with a marshmallow under the trigger and cheap cat food ontop. Set the trap at least 50 yards away from the feeder the coons will find it.

Years ago I trapped a lot and used cattle cubes in my traps to catch coons...sometimes cat food. Marshmallows sounds interesting. I think just about anything might work for coons. I used small chunks of rabbits hoping for bobcats and catch coons with that.

One or two is not a problem but when you get to 14 or more then you have a problem.... and yes they will keep the deer away.

I doubt it deters the deer...the coons at my feeder visit every single night. The deer just eat around them.
