Headed down that way in a couple weeks. Deer starting to move? Freeze knock down the green? I was down there last year around December 15 and I think I was a week early.....

I just got a report that they are starting to chase does a little. This morning, my buddy had a few bucks run through chasing some ladies...

Generally the week of Christmas is the peak of the rut. Chasing will begin mid month and carry through mid January. I typically see more mature bucks in the late or post rut. They've already hooked up with a doe or two and split. Later they'll be searching for any unbred does...mop up duty...Looking for the ugly girls and late bloomers.

Anyone hunt this weekend between Freer and Laredo? Report I got was limited movement due to the heat. Some chasing in the mornings, though.

Just returned from 6 days between Laredo and Encinal, SW of Freer. Our deer are in full blown rut. The rut typically peaks between Thanksgiving and December 10 at our place. Next full moon should have them really stirred up. Shot a doe that was in heat last week.
