All you can tell from that picture is he's older than 2 1/2. Aside from that, you can't see any other of the indicators from that angle you would use to judge a deer's age with any certainty.

I'd say he's a 4 yr old from that one photo, but it's nothing more than a WAG.

Qdog,

I say that buck is 4.5 at least. Hard to tell with that being the only photo but that is my thought.

I'd say youngish, 3 - 4, especially if he's within a few miles either way of the Newcastle, Murray, Woodson corridor.

Buck age hard in that area and the locals propensity for week day & year-round hunting of non resident properties gets them while they're young.
In that area I'd kill him if I wanted to, in other areas I'd let him age a while, looks like really good potential.

Rustler, it is in Murray, so the corridor you're mentioning. Can you further elaborate with some details or personal experiences on your comments? Thanks

It's the same old story thats been going on since before either of us were born.

There are less desirable areas / more prone to crime & illicit activities in almost every county in the state, parts of Young county are no different.

I have personal & know many with the same experiences, would take quite a bit of time & space to write a few of them out.

Point being, if you see that deer and want to kill him I wouldn't wait or see if he makes it another year or two in that area, just mush the trigger & be happy.

Give me some details Maximus. You're never at a "loss for words", just trying to be fully in the know as an out of town small landowner out there.

Just me, it would be unwise to go into any detail in an open forum, you know 'others' don't have to join to read posts & view pictures.

Many locals all around the state can ID from a small general area to within a few hundred yards of where many pictures were taken.

And, the hey guys I got a place or my place is off CR 3001 6 mi w of whatever town gives the locals all they need to figure out where your place is, a little reading lets them know you don't live there and aren't there most of the time.

If you want to improve hunting in one of these type areas you'll have to be on the place frequently at random days & times year-round, be unpredictable when you just might show up.
The county sheriff or GW can't be your own little hunting spots personal or only form of security.

I have taken that philosophy in the last year in terms of my thinking, especially with a small place. There is only so much you can do to manage the herd and there are a lot of foul ball's around who will shoot anything with horns.
