I've been seeing this buck off and on since this late this summer and the last time he showed up was about a week before opening day. was watching some does and young bucks yesterday and noticed they kept looking back into the brush. I had a feeling something big was coming and sure enough this old boy comes limping in.
I had decided earlier this year to take a deer with one of my Sixguns. had several choices but settled on my dads Super Blackhawk using Skeeter loaded .44 specials with a Keith boolit I cast and powder coated myself. those three men are a big reason for my love of single actions so I felt it was fitting that they play a part.
shot was about 45 yards as he was quartering towards me. after the shot he ran in my direction and stopped at 20 yards to look back at what bit him. he was wobbling heavily and about to go down but since he was still standing I put another in him. he went another six steps and was down for the count. with the kickers on his dog catcher and G2 he's an 11 point.
feeling mighty blessed.
