Still seeing a lot more mallards than usual. I’ve killed at least one on 4/6 hunts so far, and seen them every time. That’s already more than I normally kill an entire season on this lake. The lake has also dropped several feet since opening day, taking away all the flooded vegetation and duck food, and it made a big difference in bird numbers. Sunday last weekend was the last day it was really good. We ended with 10, should have had 2 limits but we lost a greenhead and had some poor shooting on another flock. Today I ended the the first part of the season with a mallard and a gwt. I actually doubled on the pair of mallard that came in but one of them came back to life and took off after I sent my dog on the second bird. I sat out till about 11:30 today hoping some migrators would come in with the north wind but it was completely dead.
