Had a real nice hunt in S Central KS last weekend on private land. The quail crop was really strong, so first year that we spent 2-3 hours a day focused on quail to get our fix since its going to be lean in Texas this year. Really good scenting conditions and dog work. Two of my three action cam batteries wouldn't hold a charge in the cold, so not enough video to amount to anything but here are some still pics.

Love the first point on the road. Reminds me of a hunt years ago near Chesterfield. We were a 100 yards from the windmill and water.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I would say about five coveys a day pointed avg, 2 or 3 more that were walked up and we get the dogs over to work singles. The last turn on Monday was the only quail spot we hit and we had five coveys pointed on that hour and fifteen min walk. As always, needs to be a tree line nearby for heavy concentration of quail up there.

Does a hawk scream call work for you? I got curious and googled it. Appears some guys try to freeze birds with a hawk call, but from what I could find, most find it doesn't work.
Nice pics.

I have never tried it on pheasants and assume it would not work. I use it less frequently but I have used it on blues before with mixed results -- it makes me feel better to try and do something to stop them if nothing else
