I see great in low light with my $200 Nikon Scope I am amazed at how much light it gathers. I have never looked through anything very fancy in low light so maybe that is why I am satisfied with what I have, nothing to compare it to. Anyway I can see before and after legal with my scope just fine.

Oh and the steiners you don’t have to focus. Not sure why not but that seems like a cool feature.

The low end Vortex Diamondbacks aren't very good, a buddy of mine threw his in the glove box after realizing that they weren't great.

Sounds like you have the right plan. The steiners are a much better choice for the extra money. But don't buy until you try the $800-1000 range recommendations you've been given.

Check out what's left in the Cabelas bargain cave. They could have the Meopta I recommended under their Cabelas brand Euro HD. I've seen them there before for $700. Be careful, as they have changed their new stuff under their brand to Vortex.

I bought a pair of Bausch & Lomb about 20 yrs ago, and still use them to this day. I think I paid between $400-500 for them back then. My wife had a pair that "looked" similar. After she looked thru mine, she tried to seriously tell me that she was pretty sure they were hers and mine were the inferior brand that she had. I quickly schooled her on her mistaken identity of her POS binos, and how much I paid for them, BEFORE I ever even knew that she existed.

Here is a link to Steiner Predator. In the description the state "Ultimate Low Light Performer" and I agree. I have had mine for more than ten years and they are still crisp and clear.

Zeiss, Leica and Meopta are a bit out of Op's preferred price range

Great advice above on binocs. Suggest you rethink the Vortex scope. The eye relief is not good at all compared to the other scopes that I have. If you persist on the Vortex, I will make you an offer you can not refuse on a Diamondback.

They do make very poor bird watching binos due to the color issue.

Poor glass gives me a headache, always has. Bushnell and Nikon will do that to me. Good glass is worth it.

I bought 2 sets of Steiner binocs about 20 years ago. Never regretted it.

Zeiss. Few weeks ago had two bucks about 450 yards from me with my Nikon couldn't quite make out the quality of these bucks. My nephew had his Zeiss and no problem much clearer. Same power.

Well I finially Pulled the trigger after much looking and thinking. I went With the vortex vipers 10x50. Seemed like a great option and upgrade from what I have Had. After some discussion, I think These will always take care of me during legal shooting hours. I guess Time will only tell.

Another vote for Steiner. I've had mine about 10 years now. Still as good as the day I bought them. And I love not having to focus. Now you do have to adjust the eye pieces if you want to look at things inside 50 yards.

When I was shopping to upgrade my binoculars, I went to a store that carried multiple brands and levels of each and looked thru each pair closely both in the store and outside at farther distances.
There was a very fine line between most of the middle to upper levels. I finalized on 10x42 Leupold as they just seemed a bit better for my eyes/vision.
