My six year old grandson and I are headed to my place for his first sit in a blind ever this afternoon. Should be interesting. Pray for us, not for any muy grande to come out or anything, just for us not to kill each other. grin

I found the best activity with my daughter at the age was playing "I spy" - just needed an extra pair of bino's. But good luck.

Just got to the house. I had one of the prettiest 8pts I've ever seen on our place at my #6 stand. He came out right at dark. Worked his way towards my stand and ate road corn, eyeing the 6 doe across the fence. Then started running back and forth chasing them. 16" wide,19"" tall and heavy for our area. Chocolate horns. Awesome deer. I just couldn't get him over 3.5 years old though. I passed. I rode the 4 wheeler to the stand BTW.

Erath, I think your eyes deceive you sometimes. Do you often plate more food than you eat?

Better question for me is what days am I not in the stand. Have only missed one day since rifle season started. I will probably miss this coming Friday or Saturday.

Beautiful morning but slooooww as molasses. Haven't seen a single deer. The moon has jacked with their circadian rhythm.

I would have thought the evenings would be better, but yesterday it was slow as well.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Moon is getting pretty full so they will probably be moving late morning - mid day.

My deer app shows the next 3 days to be prime with the activity supposedly from 11:00 - 2:00 PM each day. Surprisingly the app has been pretty good about predicting optimal feed times (based on lunar activity), albeit it doesn't take in to account he rut. I'm going to put it to the test tomorrow through Sunday.

Maybe go to each feeder, manually trigger and give it 30 minutes. Then move to next feeder and so on at lunchtime. food

Son-in-law sat with us this morning. Decent mature hill country 8 decided to go harass a smaller buck and left the feeder and started heading toward the alfalfa bale I'd put out to the left. I asked if he was sure he didn't want to use my rifle and shoot him. He said okay and pole axed him at about 60 yards. 'First deer he's killed in 30+ years. A good morning.
