Just getting into hog hunting at our place and want to get a 300 or 308 but going to try my AR15 first. Looking to find the correct bullet to use on hogs and currently have some Winchester 55G ballistic silver tips. Anything better or will these do the job? Thanks!

I think you'll like what I use, .300 B/O, 120 gr. Hornady SST. Dropped both these, about 100 yards. Ammo is custom from Custom Reloads of Dallas. I've killed a bunch with this. When I'm carrying my .308 I really like 165 gr. Hornady Superformance, SST bullet. Drops them, every time. See the photo of the single for my preferred shot placement.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I've killed pigs with 55 grain bullets in an AR but, I didn't set out to hunt pigs, they showed up while I was coyote hunting. If you are talking about an AR in .223/5.56, I agree with DNS. I would recommend as heavy a .224 bullet as your barrel will stabilize. I carry my Mossberg MVP Patrol rifle as my truck gun and I load 70 grain SP bullets for it. It has a 1:9 twist and stabilizes the heavier bullet just fine. That way if I run across pigs while feeding cattle or whatever, I have a little more mass to send down range. If you just want to shoot the 55 grain ammo you have try to aim for the ear. You are more likely to drop one that way than you are trying a shoulder shot with the 55 grainers.

I went to a gun shop in north Dallas and they recommend the Hornady Black 5.56 76gr interlock. So i guess i will see how these work this weekend as i don't have time to make another stop.

right behind the ear, it doesn't really matter what you use..
I run a 6.8 with 120SSTs, they anchor big pigs on the run with less than perfect shots when 556 rounds don't..
If using a 556 and you want the best ammo for hogs.. (not strategic perfect shots where it doesn't really matter what you use) then I think this is the best ammo you can get.. 70g Barnes 5.56
If it is behind the ear, then make sure it is about midway down the neck so that it hits the spine or that the hog is quartered away and the bullet goes into the skull. Too many get shot above the spine, but BEHIND THE EAR and survive just fine.

I assume you are talking about a 223. If so trust me ...shoot the Winchester 64gr. Hog Special. I have tried almost everything in 223 and nothing had the killing power of these for some reason.

I have 77gr Privis that do a darn good job out of my LWRC which has 1:7 twist. That said, the best AR bullet is something bigger than a 5.56/.223 so I normally grab my .308

The 5.56 is for me a hog gun only when I can pick my shots. Have to admit to shooting a bunch of hogs with the cheap steel cased Monarch 55 grain FMJBT and most dropped on the spot because I hit the spine or the head (some of the ones I didn't hit just right were never found). I like to shoot them between the ear and the eye, below the ear, the center of the neck in front of the shoulder or high shoulder. I like the Federal XM193 best of the FMJ's but hard to beat $4.99 a box. This said I got a Grendel which so far has been very effective with head and spine hits.
