A post recently by a fellow Young county Hunter believing that another Young county Hunter's posted buck harvest may have been a buck he had seen on camera recently. My personal opinion is that it was most likely a completely different deer but who knows. My real question is this, "Are you inclined to focus your hunting attention on harvesting one or two particular bucks or do you take it as it comes, if you are out hunting and see a buck that captures your fancy, you will take it regardless of whether it has/has not been seen on camera before?". I tend to be of the latter, if I see a nice buck while out, I will likely shoot it. What say you all?

Last year I shot a buck that had been on camera at several different feeders. We all agreed he was a shooter and the first to see him would likely get him. He showed on the second week of December and the rest was history. I had another, much larger buck on camera last year that I really liked but he didn't show once the rut was winding down. That's not to say I wont take one that hasn't been on camera and fits my criteria. My daughter says I'm too picky but for once I'd like to shoot a nice mature buck, not the nice 3 year old's that will be monsters if they get the pass they deserve. Last year's buck was a 5.5 year old 8, tall and wide but no mass to speak of.

I don't give a shoot what that camera has on it or doesn't. Nor do I care if I have "gotten to know" a regular. If I see a nice enough deer while deer hunting...well. That's like saying if your target buck is a great 10 pointer you have been watching and decided this is his year, would you pass on the 12 pointer that is better because you've not seen him on your camera.

I think it all depends on whether or not that strange new buck that you've never seen before "wows" you or not.

There was a large 10 pt on our cameras that everyone wanted to shoot this season, myself included. Opening weekend a 9 pt. came to my feeder that was just as big as a buck that I had shot 2 years earlier, but I let him walk because I was waiting for that big 10 I had seen on my camera. Fast forward to the next weekend and I end up shooting a different 10 pt. that I had never seen before.

Though this guy wasn't the 10 I had seen on camera and had been waiting for, this new 10 "wowed" me so much that I had no doubt that I wanted to shoot him, so I did. Like I said, I guess it just depends.......

A shooter is a shooter. The game cams are just to whet the appetite. IMO.

If I see a big buck on camera that I want to shoot, that gives me something to focus on. However, I get sidetracked easily so if another buck steps out and I get that same feeling I'll shoot him just as quick. I try not to get too wrapped up in score, I just know when I see a shooter (for me) if I want to shoot him regardless of what he'll score. One caveat is if the one on camera is big enough I will most likely pass on another smaller shooter, but only for so long. I always shoot one or two does for meat so if I don't get a buck it's no big deal.

I just shoot the first one that I think is good enough to go in the freezer.

I don't use game cameras much. Main reason is I don't want to focus on one buck or know exactly what is coming and going(other than pigs). If its a shooter, and "shooter" may vary depending on what kind of mood I'm in, how far into season we are, what my schedule is, etc - it gets shot

Some years I will pick a target buck and spend the season after him but if a bigger one shows up I will adjust mu priorities to him. There have been quite a few years that I never got a shot at my target buck and wound up with a couple does for the freezer. one year i decided to take an older buck that I wanted to remove from then on the last weekend of season had the target buck inside 50 yards for over a half hour bang you never know.

Talking with a guy that showed me pics of his big target buck on a small place in Collin County and I hated to but I then showed him a picture of the same buck with another hunters hands on the rack. Hated to but he thanked me for showing it to him, he was sad he did not get it but at least knew not to pass on another good one that he showed me pics of the following week that he would have passed on waiting on his target. Both bucks were non typicals and very reconizable.

One target buck I hunted for 3 yers was found dead after the third season of him being targeted on the nexp place dead in the creek 10 pt that scored gross 167 with a 22 inch inside spread. I had actually missed a shot with the bow on another buck I only eer saw 2 times that was a 7 point with an inside spread of at lest 24 inches and was a larger bodied buck. The big 7 was limping at the end of season and looked pretty rough and I have often wondered if he got the better of the 10 in a battle of the titians

I agree with this, there’s one I’m after, but if a different impressive deer shows up he dead.

First mature buck to show up draws lead, I don't care if it's a 5.5 180" 10 or a 8.5 100" 6. Either is going to be a trophy to me that I will be proud of.

I find it an interesting tool to see the shooters in my area. It is satisfying to be able to see these bucks while hunting. I harvested my target 10 point in archery and am now spending my time with my wife looking for one of the other 4 shooters we identified on camera. We have had 2 of them in view but not in a shooting position. She will shoot any respectable buck regardless if it was on camera!!!!

My goal every year is to find a big fully mature buck that I would want to put on my wall whether I see it on the game cam or not.
Unless there is a picture of a once in a life time monster on the game camera, I am going to shoot if it is big old boy!
I have passed on a couple of bucks that were bigger than anything I have ever taken because they were not 6.5 or a big 5.5.

I can always shoot a spike or doe later for meat up

I’d love to shoot a nice buck, but as of right now I am missing two tags with a freezer full of meat that I will eat. Now I will hunt for the buck I want., but I will always eat first. I have two tags left to use, a spike will get a pass unless he’s mature, an AR buck will now be at my discretion.

It's all about the "feeling". If I get it, I'll shoot but for me if the at feeling is not almost instantaneous with sighting then I don't shoot. These days I like the preseason work, viewing TC pics, and just watching the deer. But hogs get no passes.
