My son-in-law found this point today. Southwest Mills county close to the Colorado river. I know nothing about them. Would just like a few opinions. What it was used for, etc?

I would say that is a spear point. If so it would have been put on a long pole and used in either battle or for killing large game.

Atlatl point, I would say early Archaic stemmed/Bifurcated that could fall into a few categories. Many time a single point can be given a different name just due to wear and being re-chipped.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yep. It's possible it could be Pedernales, but the flaking and weak shoulders looks more Hoxie to me. Hoxie technology is much older than Pedernales. Early archaic, like HWY said.

Congratulations to him. Always special to pick up something from a previous hunter that's been in that spot, centuries (or more) before you.

Looks a tad big and heavy for an arrow point. Likely a spear point.

It's not an arrow point. It's a dart point for an Atlatl dart.

Great find, Mills county has lots of them. with all the recent heavy rains, should be a good time to find them.

I hunted a ranch on the Colorado near Brady. They were covered up in them. Ranch foreman had a collection that would blow your mind.

There is a spot me and the kids arrowhead hunt sometimes up near the Red River. I explained to them how even if all you pickup is flint chips that they had been handled by an indian at one time or another.

I have a few points, nothing as cool as this though. Nice find.

The Colorado River bottom is full of Indian camps. You may find more.

Great find. Every time I pick or dig one up I wonder if I might one day have the chance to meet the person who made it.

Many places along the Brazos river where they camped have a lot of broken ones.

My G-Grandfather was a farmer outside Brady. He would frequently turn up points while plowing. He had a collection that filled three 24x24 boards full up.

Great find.
