Made the first trip of the year to NW SD. It was a great time! Bird numbers were way up from last year. I was also able to shoot my first Sharptail limit! We ended the trip 5 Days hunting 3 guys with 29 Roosters, 15 Sharpies, 17 Huns.

Can't wait to be in Nebraska next week then off to the Texas Panhandle after that. I need to figure out what I have in this GWP and make a decision to Sell him or Keep him.

Made that trip once years ago. The Huns were the most fun.

I found where my wife had put my stash of old cookbooks. I

It's called Braised pheasant. I remember that I boned the breast, rather than split them. I used sharp tails, Huns, and pheasant. It made a beautiful presentation.

Man, it looks like a fantastic trip

I’m sitting in a hunting lodge in SD right now...all pumped up about my first hunt here, in the morning

Just received an e main from SD, they are allowing snares starting today 11/14. So if you are going now be watchful, hate lose a dog to a snare meant for coyotes

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

That is a really cool hunt, love the mixed bag. I have hunted in North Dakota since I could expense the trip for work but never South. All birds shot over pointers or did you walk any Sharpies/Huns up with flushers?

Can someone please answer a rookie question about the northlands? How do you tell the sharptails from the hen pheasants? I've hunted pheasants long ago, just never in a place with sharpies.

The Sharpie is a more compact football shaped bird. They have more white than a hen pheasant. On the flush they often let out a raspy chuckle. Similar to the cackle of a rooster pheasant but raspier.

How's the pheasant hen population up there these days?
Did you see plenty?
