 Going from winter wheat to cotton?

The winter wheat field on our lease is getting put under contract for cotton. My question is how negatively will it affect out mule deer and whitetail? Lease is just east of shamrock. Thanks guys

anytime you take away a food source it is not good. My advice is to adapt - start your own food plot or add cottonseed or protein for you deer

They should be about finished stripping cotton in November, not sure how late they go that far north. Like tlk said, I would create some food plots.

They strip it 2nd or 3rd week of November up here, can’t put food plots in.

Don't you have any pasture area that you create a small plot?

Does that mean before they harvest it Before they defoliate it, the deer love cotton. with cotton especially that far north they spray a "defoliant" on it or sometimes a combination of things.....the defoliant kills off the leaves and gets them to fall off the plant without fully killing the plant and they will often have a "harvest aid" (generally just called defoliants as well) to help the boll open up and show the lint to be stripped or picked it will generally be 10 days to 2 weeks after it is sprayed that it is harvested sometimes they will put the boll opener on first and then spray a second pass to defoliate it really just depends on the crop conditions
