It is supposed to be in the low 30s here in CC tomorrow morning. Decoys are loaded up, airboat is full of fuel, I'm ready to go!

I plan to put the smack on them. It’s finally feeling like duck season!

Ended up walking a long way to a super secret spot that only holds water with a ton of rain, which we had. Didn't have time to scout, but the math worked out. My buddy wanted to work with his pup so Rosie didn't make this one, and that made me the designated shooter. Two shot double on a greenhead and wigeon, a triple on two greenheads and a suzie, and a one shot finisher on a greenhead.

Found a spot holding a few gaddies and wigeon. It'll be just me and the pup in the morning and then Saturday I'll go out again but with a buddy or two.

I'm not expecting a lot. Places I've been seeing lots of birds were empty this morning.

I'm going for the first time ever. I'm alone with no dog, but I got decoys and some waders. Not sure how I'll do, but you got to start somewhere I suppose. Any tips for a rookie?

Do you have a plan on how you will retrieve your birds? Do you have a boat? Are you hunting big or small water?

Small water and no boat. Lol I'm kinda embarrassed to say that what I can't reach by wading I'll sling a rod out there and reel em in.

Using a fishing rod with a big topwater lure works great! If you can cast far enough. If its windy I just wait for them to blow to shore then pick them up.

If the trigger is gold, the birds will fold.

No shame!

You should be fine on small water. Throw rocks, wait for them to blow to the shore or line mentioned use a rod and a top water lure.

Same here, except I got mine rigged up with a DWADR. Release the spool and sling it underhanded with the other hand. I can get pretty darn far out there, which is good cuz our big pond is pretty deep right now.

Well I got 3! I got a lot of feathers, but couldn't bring em down. I wasn't using a choke because I heard the steel pellets would damage my barrel if I did. Either way I had an amazing first duck hunt. Fishing pole came in handy too.

Wait wait wait.... you weren't using ANY choke??? Mmmaaannn I hope you didn't ruin the threads. Some chokes will not take steel shot but most will until you get to really tight chokes. They should say it on it if it will or will not.

Most modern screw in chokes are designed for steel shot and should say so on them. Shoot improved or modified based on your expected shot distance.
