Well it has been an amazing and unforgettable Veterans Day Weekend that comes to an end. Established myself as a guest with a life long friend who invited me up for some catching up and to chase down his big 9 he has had his eyes on for awhile. One he watched grow up the past years and passed several times until this year. We started out Thursday morning with his father in law (LO) who wanted to get his hunt out of the way. He took a very weird and rare 8 point within 45 minutes in the morning. Decided we would let the rest of the day cool off and get after my buddies 9 Friday. Morning was 6 Bucks from 4 points to some young but decent 8’s that we decided to let grow another year or so. On our drive in that afternoon, right at the gate laid the 9 point hit by a car sometime betweeen the time we left and came back. Upsetting and the mood changed. That evening we seen same Bucks so we called it a day. Saturday morning we get out to the blind and with just an ounce of light and barely able to see in the binos, my buddy picks up cow patties all over in front of us. Someone came in to feed up north the night before and left the gate open so all the cattle was in on our area. These are 675 acre plots and the neighbor has to cross there land to get over to his. Been this way for 25 years and never an issue. He just had a brain fart and didn’t shut the gate. So we are now looking at a small buck and 2 Doe and not shooting time yet. Out behind us we hear this cow screaming it’s head off getting closer and closer. So now my buddy found his Buck on the road and now a cow is coming in to where we are lost or seen the truck and knows it is time to eat. 3 Bucks and 2 Doe in front of us, just enough light to shoot, and a raging Calf looking for mom comes running in. Deer take off and my buddy is ready to explode. “We are eating Beef or Venison tonight. Depends on the Calf” he says. He was ready to pack up and go and out of my left eye I see this white flash out in the trees a quarter of the way up a small hill. Binos up and adrenaline pumping as I made contact with a giant. Buddy gets a look and I tell him to grab his rifle as I am going to range him. “Not happening Bro, if you want him take him. I am not shooting him. It’s Veterans Day weekend and your Buck to have if you want him”. As the guest I am not shooting. I would love nothing more then to see my buddy take this beautiful 8. He refuses for several minutes and tells me take him or watch him leave and listen for the neighbor to shoot. This Buck was trying to cut a tree down up there and was scraping very hard. Definitely the dominant Buck and the rest is history. Back and forth over 3 days we counted 23 Bucks and 10 Doe moving between Gray and Wheeler County. What a trip!!

I wish I would have got a weight on him. Took two of us to load him in the truck but not a guess on weight. He had a lot of fat on him.
