Huntmaster I can name 8 catfish places in Dallas area that no longer use catfish but instead Basa or Swai.. They all claim to use catfish.. Yes they not like being called out....

Really? We tried that place after it opened. Never went back. Service and food lousy. Try Mel’s in Boyd. Real catfish.

Consider it a public service and name them.

Question for Austinites....Does the Manchaca Volunteer FD still do their catfish fry every Friday? I'm sure it was farm-raised but OMG that was some of the best catfish I've had in my life. If I remember correctly, plates were $7.00. They started selling every Friday at 11am and sold until they ran out, usually about 12:30 or so. Three filets, two hushpuppies, beans, and cole slaw. Sometimes they had desserts for $2.00, either banana pudding or cobbler of some kind. It was to-go only. I'd usually get a few plates for the office and eat mine in the truck while it was still steaming hot.

I think this ended years ago.

Oscar Store East of Temple. Great catfish.

Shame about the Manchaca VFD fry ending. That was some great catfish.

Had a high school reunion at Oscar Store a couple years ago. They had us on a "choose from 3" menu and I didn't see catfish as an option. I'll have to go back and try it.

Clear Springs on HWY 46 outside New Braunfels is always a good choice and the onion rings may be the best

My father-in-law just ate at Lindy's on I-20 just outside of 635 and said he really liked their catfish.

I'm not sure about the best, but it's pretty dang good.

As for Dead Fish Grill on Lake belton.... sick They have a great view, but their food is just ok. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone, unless all you care about is a sunset view of the lake.

Chuck's steakhouse in temple was one of my favorite catfish places, but shut down about a year back. The Farm House in Mexia isn't too shabby and their onion rings are awesome!

I have found Walmart catfish nuggets. Thaw them good and spread them out flat and you have some nice fillets. I bread them in my yellow cornmeal mix and fry in lard. Dang good!

We like Fox Hollow too. My father in law ate at Possum Hollow a couple weeks back and said it put Fox to shame. I haven't personally been in years, but we are going to try it again next time and see.

Hucks in Dennison is perhaps some of the best carfish I can remember having. Also enjoy Catfish King, which are located in North East Texas.

Another vote for Fox Hollow. They have changed their offerings as they now are "Family Style" with a menu choice of about 6 different choices (including Catfish).

My favorite place for fried catfish is the Duck’s Nest on Lake St John in NE Louisiana. Best non-restaurant is the wife’s youngest brother’s place. Best fried catfish I have ever had. He’s in Arkansas. So...I have no favorite place in Texas. The catfish tastes about the same wherever I go around here. Billy B’s Sale Barn here in Groesbeck would be my local choice.

I highly doubt it, but is the Duck Inn in Lake Dallas still around?? Growing up it seemed like a huge deal to go eat there. It was a whole family affair, grandparents and all. I have no idea if the food was any good, I just remember thinking it was special to go eat there.
