Life has been really busy this year and I have missed all season up until Saturday morning. I told my wife it was the Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day Sunday, it essence it was my weekend. I got to the lease about 9pm Friday night and checked my protein and corn feeders. Everything was operational and all systems appeared to be on go. Pulled my camera card and headed back to camp to see what has been visiting my area. I had 5000+ images on my camera of nothing but a weed that had grown up and was setting it off. Explains why the batteries were dead. Woke up late Saturday morning at 0615, did a fireman dress and headed to my stand. Got settled in the stand about 0645 and lit my heater. I opened my front window and my left side window which looked out over my feeder. At 0700 a big doe came in on the right side of my stand, the side the window WAS NOT open. She stayed about 6 yards from my blind for just a few minutes before disappearing into the woods. So as she disappears I think to myself, why didn't you have that window open, but it was cold at 32 degrees. Within a minute of her disappearing this buck was standing beside my blind, not sure where he even came from, just appeared while I was looking out the other window. By the way, the window is STILL closed. HE starts to walk directly away from my blind down an opening and gives me a chance to swing my window open. By this time he is already standing partially in the edge of the woods and then BAM, he disappeared into the woods. So I thought to myself he will circle around down wind of where the doe went so I started watching out the front window for him to appear. head turning back and forth from one window opening to the next. About 3 minutes has passed and out he comes from the same place he disappeared. This time I was ready, had my 1903 Springfield my dad gifted to me ready to go. He appeared to be going to walk straight across the opening without stopping so I gave a little BAAAAA, he froze and KABOOM. DRT and the rest is history. Truly blessed.
