I saw my first ever mountain lion tonight! It was on the Fisher/Jones county line.

Has anyone else seen one in this area?

I heard what sounded like a cat around 5. My wife said it was a pig.
Right at sunset around 50-60yards from the blind there was a mountain lion, just walking on the edge of a tree line.

Because of the way we were sitting in the blind, with the door open, there was no way I could have got a shot without muzzle blasting my wife, so we just watched it walk by.

I was really surprised by how light colored it was, I think it was a female.

I’d say around 80 lbs, my wife say 100 plus.

Why would it it be making noise? That seems weird to me.

The walk to and from that deer blind will never be the same!,

Cool deal. I just seen one in Colorado last week and it was full grown. They are cool to watch for sure. I have no passion to kill one. They are just trying to survive in a mans world. IMO

People that try to make a living raising sheep and goats, and to some extent, trophy deer, feel otherwise. 'Just a matter of perspective.

That's awesome. Something that you will never forget. I've only seen one out in the wild and it's one of those memories that hasn't faded at all in over 20 years!!!!

I would rather hunt lion than deer any day or any time. There is a reason that bounties are paid on lions in many counties and by many ranchers. If someone doesn't want to shoot a lion that is your business and I will admit that I have walked off from a tree with a young lion in it.
Adios,
Gary

I have heard stories for over 65 years of sightings in Williamson county. Have a friend who use to hunt around Bastrop, he saw one every year for several years.

Not to dismiss your accounts, but I’m sure there are legendary stories in every Texas county of some hunter who claimed to have seen a panther.

Supposedly have been verified in all 254 counties. I've seen exactly one. Laying in a wheat field just north of Brady. Near the 'Geographic center of Texas'. He was about 50 yards from hwy 377. We pulled over and watched it rolling around on its back. It saw the truck and ran straight across that wheat. Coolest thing ever.

I use to hunt a ranch on the San Saba McCullough border. Tracker called the ranch house once day stating that he tracked one to the fence and wanted permission to come on the property. Owners were real particular and refused to let him. Owners told me to shoot cats on sight and never report them. They did not want the attention. I found 2 deer that were killed or covered up by cats. One was a doe I lung shot late in the evening. It went down a steep creek bank and left it till morning since it was cold. When I found it the next morning a big cat had beaten me to it. As soon as I figured it out I backed out of there. A cat will always guard its kill. Brother and a friend of mine actually saw cats on the property.

Never saw one, but the people who talked about it were cattlemen and hunters running dogs for fox and coons. the closest I have come is seeing tracks of a female and cub when hunting along Devil's Backbone near Wimberely many years ago. On opening weekend neighbor told me hunting would be bad that year because she moved back in, would show up every 3-4 years. The few deer we saw were so spooky. Couple weeks later saw tracks on a muddy trail the went about 10-15 ft. beside my blind.

BIL’s farm is about 12 miles due west of Brady, I’ll be there Thanksgiving and plan on calling for coyotes. Would be awesome to see a mountain lion.

I’m 59 and have never seen a mountain lion in the wild. On the other hand, I was in Frisco last Saturday and cougars were crawling out of the woodwork.

A couple have been spotted on our ranch in Dimmit County....but not in well over a decade.

Have had 3 jaguarundi sightings in the last decade, however. I saw one at 60-70 yards about 9 years ago. Watched him for 30 seconds. No doubt what I saw.
Dad saw what he thinks was the same one, two days apart, about 4-5 years ago.

Family friend found a tree that was all torn up about 3-4 years ago, and sent pics to a Wildgame biologist and he figured it was a lion that did it. Would love to see one in person.

I've seen 3 in my lifetime . The first one was on my dad's lease down near Brady in the mid 60's- we turned off of a county road onto an interior road , and one was standing in the middle-of-the-road, saw it for about 5 seconds. The 2nd time was when I was in college and was down in the Davis Mountains with a desert biology class. We rounded a rock outcropping and one was standing about 30 yards away from us, I don't know who was more scared! We both ran opposite directions. The last one I saw was on our deer lease in North Texas, on the Jack/Wise County line 2 years ago on the opening day of bow season. I was in a pop up blind on a creek overlooking a feeder, where I had a few good dear on camera. About 4:30 PM, I catch movement to my right and about 15 yards away one is walking down into the creek bottom. Saw it for about 4 to 5 seconds, max. I had the wind in my face and it never knew I was there. It really surprised me to see it, although the rancher has seen a mountain lion on this property previously. Interestingly, all the deer that were on that feeder vanished, and I didn't see any deer in that area for the rest of the season. .

Hmm - lots of Brady sightings over the years. Nice, I am just a couple of miles north of the County line. I have never seen one in the wild, but THINK I have heard in the distance a time or two in the past. I heard (2nd hand, I know) that one was caught on a game cam a couple of miles west of me last year - that one was in Mills County if the report is true, but still kind of near the Heart of Texas roadside park.

I have seen 2 in my life. One was on the public hunting land below richland chambers lake about 20 years ago. The second was around lake Whitney about 2 years ago. Cool animals for sure.

It would be fun the pursue and tree one with hounds and then just let it go. The shooting is sort of anti-climatic. Wonder how much something like that would cost.

Another Brady guy here. I had one scream directly behind me when I was 18. I was at the lake up to no good (details not appropriate) and the person I was with asks if I heard a woman screaming across the lake. I did not. Within a minute or twos time, it screamed from directly behind us. We both jumped in the car. She was crying her eyes out. I wasn't about to get out of the car and grab our stuff. (not my manliest moment) We didn't lay eyes on it, but there is no mistaking that sound. You will never forget that sound. It felt like it was five feet behind us. I took my girlfriend to her house and she was still crying. Her mom ask why and we told her we were walking in the park and something flew over us and screamed. I couldn't come up with anything better I guess. Her mom instantly replied "It was probably a la chusa! They only come out when you are doing something bad." LOL.

Another time about a year ago, I was helping my buddy move out to the lake. Oddly enough, it is about 1/2 mile from were my first experience was. As we pulled around the house (in different trucks) we both saw one take off from a group of willows and run into another group of willows. The lion didn't run in a way I would expect to see a lion run. It ran low to the ground like a prowl but really fast. Very cool to see.

I live near Brady and have seen two. One was on 4K Ranch on Brady Creek. I was walking the creek bank and looked up just as one stood up on the rock bluff 30 feet above my head. He snuck behind the cedars and I went back to my pickup, faster than before. The other ran across the road out between Doodle and Salt Gap where the road crosses the mountain.

There was one run over in the road just past Rochelle a few years ago. There we're ladies in Rochelle that said one would come on their porch and eat cat food. Probably ate a cat or two.

I have seen two in my hunting career. Awesome animals. There are certain animals I would not shoot, a mountain lion is on that list.
