I've put a lotta work into a post, tried to post a range map twice and had the "New Picture Uploader" delete everything I've posted (including the picture). 'HATE the new look.

Anyhow, on the way to the blind Thursday morning I could have sworn I saw in the headlights a Woodcock by a little leftover pool of water. I'm between Sheffield and Sanderson, waaay outside their range.

Is this even possible? That's gotta be one lonely bird, if so. (My original post was a lot more colorful.) It wasn't a Killdeer. I know what a woodcock looks like and the thing fluttered straight up, just like I've seen "Timberdoodles" do on TV.

Back when I duck hunted lake corpus often I would see one or two each year on the banks. I used to live in Michigan and hunted them regularly so I new what they were. They were woodcock, not snipe. Its likely that's what you saw.
