Looks as though I might buy one of these (probably a x-mas present) next week. I read one review where a reviewer said he had difficulty mounting it with two piece bases due to the short mounting area on front end of the scope. I have a Tikka V3X lite currently using a 2 piece picatilly bases. Has anyone else had issues mounting this scope. This is a big purchase for me and just want to feel gooder about it.

That’s the same scope I plan to get for Christmas, so I’ll be following this.

I’m in no rush to order, but thanks for the info. I will want to hear your impressions when you have the scope mounted and in use.

I used talley rings and bases and mine mounted perfectly
I bought a VX-6 3x18x44 with a 30mm tube and its the clearest piece of glass I've ever looked thru. had I not stumbled across it I was going to get the VX-5HD.
what amazes me about this scope is the amount of light it gathers. I can see clearly to shoot long after my eyes give out to darkness
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I have 3 vx6hd’s and I had that problem you speak of with receiver mounted 2 pc bases. Issue is adjusting your eye relief and not having to chase the scope when you naturally shoulder your rifle gives very little room to adjust the scopes eye relief. I had to get rails and picatinny rings so I could move my scopes enough to adjust for my eye relief, which was not really what I wanted due to added weight going from Talley light weight rings.

If you want to feel the most gooder about it, just get a solid alloy one piece base/rings combo and be done with it. Lightweight 2-pc mounting solutions are junk. Adding a 1pc base/rings adds rigidity to the receiver and entire scope mounting system, making it a lot more robust with infinite options for setting the scope up for the proper eye relief. If you choose to be a cheap skate with your scope mounts, you will pay for it, eventually. I use this base, it's very solid: One Piece BaseOr this one would be a great choice: Nightforce Tikka baseIt's just stupid how nice the Seekins rings are, they're lighweight but solid, lock up great, and don't have any sharp edges. Best money you could ever spend on rings. Seekins rings

I have two VX-6HD's and a VX-5HD, will probably get a couple more. Amazing glass and light gathering ability.
I did not have any problems mounting, but I used a one piece base with my rings.

I don’t know if it’s worth the money to you but the Leupold Alumina flip covers are nice.

Got mine mounted today, need to bore sight it tomarrow then take it out to do a final sight in hard to wait. I got the butler creek cover numbers off swfa but the eye end seems a little tight, but it works, may upgrade to the alumia at some time. So far love it, but time will tell.

Got the scope yesterday. Just ordered the free CDS dial for the 120 gr Ballistic Tip. Probably will also get one for the 100 gr BT after deer season. Wonder what it would cost to get a VX3 converted to CDS. I may need to find out.
Only problem now is the regret in taking my Vortex Viper PST 4-16 FFP off the Tikka. It’s ‘only’ a gen 1, but I have gotten quite fond of it. Very nice scope and has worked great.

Are you certain of your velocity? I was, and have been very happy with my CDS dials. I have them, one on a VX5 HD, and another on a VX6. I have different barrel lengths/velocities and Leupold really delivered on the dials for both rifles. I gave them good data and I have tested both of them and they are on the money. Hope you like it.
