I much prefer to hunt alone. I am more tuned into watching my dogs without other people distracting me. Let alone the safety side of hunting alone

Whens dogs are on the ground and guns are out its not a sociable event for me

I have to hunt alone, all my friends are deer hunters and think I'm nuts.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I prefer alone. Something about having that special time with my dog.

When hunting broke dogs it is fun to hunt with friends, but I'm typically alone and breaking young dogs.

I prefer to hunt with freinds. That is one of the great things about bird hunting. It’s a sport you can enjoy with others. I don’t mind hunting with up to 3 plus me. I prefer to hunt with just one other freind.

I am picky about who I hunt with. Me plus one more is just right. Me plus the right two can be a good time too. More than 3 total is a crowd. Hunting with my 19 year old son is special. I also have a buddy I have hunted with for over 30 years. We have hunted all over the country in that time. It doesn't hurt that he always brings a good dog. A really good hunting buddy is hard to come by. I am blessed to have two.

I have hard time finding people to go. When they’re first question is “can I get a limit?”, I just say I can’t guarantee that. That’s when they say I’ll pass. I’m happy hunting with just the dogs, it’s all about them as far as I’m concerned.

I prefer to hunt with 1 or 2 friends...not more, but I am OK with hunting alone also.

Spent 5 straight days hunting Matador alone last year and loved it.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

The more the merrier. Let 2 or 3 shoot and everybody else laugh.

I only prefer with one other freind because I’m greedy and like to kill bird. However one of the best hunts I went on last year was with some guys that showed up to hunt when my partner and I were leaving camp. It was real muddy and one of the guys that doesn’t have a UTV and just one dog drove up. He asked if he and his buddy could go with us. We loaded his dog up and they jumped in. I don’t think my partner and I fired more than a half dozen shots that day and had a hell of a time. They went home with several limits of bird and we made some good freinds.

Definitely like to take folks, usually 2 others. Love to get other folks to experience the dog work, covey rises etc.

Quail hunting is exclusive. Hunting off vehicles changed that a little. Never more than two gunners over the point, but lately a couple more can watch from a vehicle. It has become kinda like the gallery in a field trial.

A large group walking a corn field is a thing of beauty. The one man/dog sounds like a lot of work and concentration.

I like to hunt in small groups. A large part of the pleasure I take from bird hunting comes from sharing it with friends of similar bent.

Hunting in groups takes dedication to safety and mistakes can happen. I've posted this video elsewhere to prompt discussions about group safety and been (maybe justly) criticized. I've got pretty thick skin though so I'm going to post it here in hopes that it might save somebody, somewhere some heartache.

Please keep in mind that 1) it was originally made for me to share with a small group of friends and 2) the language is pretty rough so turn down your volume. I'm also certain the second shot was ill advised but that most of us would, in those circumstances, pull the trigger. We shouldn't.

Finally, lest you think I'm terribly callous about the near miss be conscious of the fact that I'm actually laughing at something said before we walked in on the point not at his reaction.

We, and others, had a pretty serious (for us) discussion about what had happened over dinner that evening. I didn't think the shot was terribly close until I saw the video a couple days later. I sent this to all that were present to show them just how close a thing it had truly been.

And why, today, remember misses?

That was close but that happens even to very safe hunters. The guy was behind that cedar tree and could not be seen.

When I was 14 my Dad and I were hunting walking thru a mesquite pasture to a dog pointed right on the edge of a cleared field. There was a barb wire fence between us and the dog. I climbed over and stepped out from behind a mesquite tree about the time the single flushed. My Dad was already over and swung on the bird and killed it. He got me with one pellet in my left shin right below my knee. It was too deep to dig out so we left it. He said if you tell Mom she won't let you come back with me. When I was in my early 20's on Christmas we were are talking about it and I thought it would be safe to talk about. Nope, Mom was just as mad as if it just happened. That pellet is still in me somewhere.

I have pheasant and quail and dove hunted with more people than I can remember and close calls do happen especially with strangers, due to not knowing the pace or position of others. I have taken bb's to the back.
I enjoy hunting with others if they are not screaming at their uncontrollable dogs all day, that gets old fast.
I would rather quail hunt the creek bottoms alone because of the flight pattern of quail is so erratic, I don't want to be so worried about another I miss out on the shooting.

I like both but never more than three on a point and usually just two.
Solo is a lot of fun too.

Waterfowl - just me, I want all of them, and it take attention. Upland - group of 2-3, with dogs all can be ready for a shot but with quick reaction you have others will get envy smile
