What’s the average size and high end of the mature bucks at Guadalupe river state park? Got drawn for the muzzle loader hunt there. I’m trying to decide where to set my “shooter buck” standard.

From that area of the Hill Country I would not set my sights to high. I sure would not wait for a 120 inch Buck to come by.

Myself, son, and SIL were drawn for Honey Creek last year.n It borders Guadalupe River SP. They were wanting us to shoot everything because they wanted it restored to its natural habitat. If you get a shot on Axis they might be bigger, but the deer are small. My son shot a small 8 pt and I shot a spike and a young Sika. Good luck either way.

Fish...you hunting the Bauer Unit on the north side of the river? Lots more exotics over there and ususally a BP only hunt in the past. WTails are typical Hil Country sized scrawny, IMO.

I’m not sure if it’s the Bauer unit. It is a muzzle loader hunt. Good info. Doesn’t sound like the bucks are spectacular So I think I’’ll just be looking for a couple of deer for the freezer. An Exotic would be a nice surprise though.

Always go for the Axis. Hill Country whitetails are nothing more than table fare. The antlers barely qualify as coat hooks.
