Looking to get myself a thermal for hogs and just to have one. Was looking at the ATN Thor 4 640×580, 4-50x or the Flir ThermoSight Pro PTS736 6-24×75(60Hz). Would like to get you guys opinion on these two. Which is the best one? Thakks

Don't buy anything ATN. If you don't believe me, rent both and you'll understand. I'd also recommend shooting a 736 before buying one, it's going to be an awfully small FOV. I have a 70 Monocular, it's really only usable for wide open, long distance viewing vs my 30 I have on a helmet and drive with.

IMHO, 50 is the ticket, as long as all of your shooting is not real close-in. I hunt an XQ50 where all of my shooting is greater than 50 yds.

I 100% agree with Charlie. Avoid ATN thermal and you'll thank yourself a million times over.

I would like to know more about how far you want to shoot, what your close range shots will be, what your long range shots will be etc. The PTS736 is a super optic but 6x is a LOT of magnification and the FOV is only 16ft at 100 yards. It's only 47ft at 300 yards! That is an extremely tight FOV. It's has a beautiful image and if you want to reach out and touch something it's a great scope, but when I was using it I literally had to turn around and walk away from hogs several times to get further away just to be able to get enough FOV to see the whole group and get an idea of the surroundings etc.

The Pulsar Apex or Trail XQ50 is a really great option as Charlie mentioned. It's 2.8x optical which is really nice magnification range for longer shots and you get a 43ft FOV at 110 yards.

If you'd like to ask questions, talk about the different optics and let me offer my no pressure free advice, feel free to give me a call. I'll gladly offer my 2 cents having used all these optics in the field.

Sounds great Johne. Just holler at me at me and I'll be glad to go over some options once I know more about your hunting conditions, distances you want to shoot etc. At least then you'll have the info you need to do more research on specific scopes that fit what you're wanting to do.
