Let me say that I am a big fan of Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. Been using them since they came available. But, I don’t think they penetrate like the old Nosler Solid Base Boattails did. I lined up two medium sized pigs last evening and sent a 120 gr BT out of my 260. Only one dropped, though I suppose the other one could have been wounded. Still, I often was able to kill two hogs that size with 130 gr Nosler SBBT bullets out of my 270 if I could get their vitals lined up. Of course, the 270 is a bit more potent than the 260.

After I shot the pigs last evening, I left them there to deal with this morning. One of the pigs was 2/3 eaten already when I got there about 8am. Do not take a nap on the ground on my place.

For better penetration try the Accubonds as they will hod together and in just about all cases shoot the same or very near what your Ballistic tips do. I agree the old red box solid base nosler bullets held together a bit better than the ballistic tip bullets. I still have one box of 60gr solid base bullets.

Thinking back most of my multiple kills with one shot on hogs have one thing in common, Nosler Partitions.

For double kills with one shot you need a tough bullet. Or at least a bullet that holds together well for good pass throughs to effectively kill the next animal. The lighter 120 grain BT would not be a bullet I would suggest for one shot double animal kills. It's great for one animal, but that bullet does not hold together well enough for a pass through shot on a second animal. If you slowed down the round by going to a heavier bullet, like a 140 grain, and went to a tougher bullet, like an Accubond, TSX, Partition, and possibly a 143 ELD-X, those would give you a better chance for a double one shot kill. But honestly, I mainly pay attention to the first animal, not the second one.

I killed 2 pigs a few weeks ago with one shot from a 300 blk out with a 115 grain Berger. Exit wound on first pig was about nickel size and went into second pig and dropped it. I shot a third pig, and the first 2 pigs were still flopping, so I shot a round in each of the first 2 pigs to finish them off. Those 2 pigs were right at 105 yards at night time shot out of my AR-15 with thermal scope.

Have doubled hogs several times. Full penetration on both. Common bullet to all of them has been a 150 grain nosler partition out of a 270 win.

What if you hit a bone with tough bullet at hi velocity? I think second animal will be spayed with bone and bullet particles. At slow velocity hitting bone it will just stay inside first one. Different story if it is soft tissue - hart, lungs, etc.

I shoot a 165g Swift Scirocco out of my .308. 2 days ago had 2 pigs lined up well. Let it eat. To my surprise when the dust settled there were 3 down. Have never doubled and I have certainly tried more than a few times. Through the neck (throat) of the first one. Pass through to #2 approximately same spot on throat. The one I didn't see was gut shot. First two inside feeder legs last one about 10 yds away. Couldnt do that again in 1000 shots but it happened with that swift bullet. Lots of luck involved for sure but it went through 2 and into a third. About 95 yards.

Imo it depends on bullet and also bullet impact speed. Granted size of the first pig can matter as well too. I've gotten doubles with 120gr nosler bt in 7mm from a 7mm-08ai, 162gr Amax from 7mm-08ai, 150gr nosler bt from a 7mm rem mag and 150gr nosler bt from good ole 30-06. All but the 120 were going under 3kfps. Also first pig was always hit behind the shoulder to ensure pass through. The bt imo gets a bad rap from guys running them too fast and shooting on the shoulder.
